Innov8 strikes Louis Pion smartwatch supply deal

Connected devices distributor Innov8 has struck a deal to supply smartwatches to 140 Louis Pion stores in France. The deal marks another step forward in the blending of technology and fashion channels, as wearables make their mark in mainstream markets. Innov8 will also educate Louis Pion staff on how best to sell smartwatches and explain functionality to consumers. The deal is further evidence that smartwatches are making the transition from geek to chic.

Stephane Bohbot, CEO and co-founder at Innov8 claims that the deal shows how connected products are now entering traditional channels. The challenge now is to adapt the in-store environment and sales approach to highlight the advantages of products that blend fashion, technology and services.

Smartwatch sales are growing fast with GfK predicting that 26 million units will be sold worldwide in 2015, including 750,000 in France. During 2014, 190,000 smartwatches were sold in France, according to the research.

With smartwatches embracing more classic watch designs, and a growing number of brands entering the market, Innov8 will drive a wide selection of devices into Louis Pion stores. With new models from Tag Heuer, Samsung and Huawei set to hit the market in the weeks ahead, the market continues to expand its consumer appeal.

The development of smartwatch sales through traditional watch retail channels also poses another challenge to technology and consumer electronics (CE) retailers looking to defend their position in the growing market for connected devices.
