Europe’s top 500 distributors boost sales 20% in 2011

The latest data from channel research outfit IT Europa claims that the top 500 European distributors generated combined sales up just over 20% year-on-year in 2011 at US$153.2 billion. IT Europa reckons that the top 500 distributors proved resilient in the face of recessionary pressures. Read full story

PC distribution drops in Western Europe

The latest data from research house Context shows a 16.9% year-on-year slump in Western European PC sales through the distribution channel in April and May 2012. Notebook units sold through distribution dropped 16.6% with netbooks falling 45.7% year-on-year. The major markets of France and Germany were hit hard with PC unit sales through distribution falling 25% and 22.3% respectively. Read full story

First quarter growth in Chilean market

Research house GfK’s latest analysis of the ICT, telecoms and consumer electronics market in Chile has revealed that the total market value grew 3.3% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2012 to hit US$732.4m, driven by growth in multiple product segments including consumer electronics and IT, plus office kit and consumables. Westcon builds Latin America presence with Afina

VAD outfit Westcon has boosted its presence in Latin America, Iberia and North Africa, snapping up Afina Group through its purchase of GLS Software and its subsidiaries. Focusing on distribution of security and datacentre solutions, Afina’s vendor portfolio includes VMware, Citrix, Riverbed, and Symantec - as well as many firms currently among Westcon’s portfolio in other regions. Laser printer sales climb in Russia

The latest data from research house Context shows a 9% year-on-year increase in Russian all-in-one laser printer shipments in the first quarter of 2012. The growth in all-in-one laser printer shipments occurred against a backdrop of printing device shipments across all product categories falling 6% year-on-year for the same period. Read full story

GfK reveals monitor trends in Russia & CIS

Notebooks and TVs are making their mark in the Russia and CIS market, putting pressure on the standard monitor market. The rise in sales of both notebooks and TVs with monitor functions and web-enabled features led to a 25% year-on-year decline in monitor unit sales in Russia in April 2012. The market also dropped 30% in value terms according to GfK, with the average monitor sales price declining 5% year-on-year to US$190. Read full story

Russia increases printer shipment share

The latest data from channel tracking experts CONTEXT has revealed that Russia accounted for 51% of printer shipments into the Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) region in the first quarter of 2012. CONTEXT includes Russia within this region and the country’s share of shipments in CEE is now 3 percentage points higher than it was in the same period a year ago. Read full story

Solid first quarter for Russian market

Research house GfK’s latest data shows that Russia’s consumer ICT and electronics market grew 5.9% year-on-year in the first quarter of 2012 to hit US$9.55 billion. The increase in value was driven by strong year-on-year growth in both the IT and photo product categories. According to GfK, IT sales were up 16.5% year-on-year in the first quarter at US$2.86 billion. Read full story
