Context offers post-HP PC analysis

Research house Context has offered some insight into what HP’s decision to head for the exit door in the PC and tablet space really means for the European distribution channel. Context reckons that the channel is well positioned to cope with the disappearance of HP revenues, highlighting the fact that the vendor’s share of Europe PC distribution sales has fallen from 44% at the beginning of 2008 to 31% by the end of 2010. Weak demand hits EMEA PC sales

EMEA PC shipments were down 8.9% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2011 according to research house IDC. High inventory levels depressed PC sell-in with total unit shipments hitting 22.1 million. IDC also reckoned that users switching to tablets and away from PCs contributed to weak consumer demand and slow stock depletion in Western Europe. Read full story

Second quarter PC sales slip in EMEA

EMEA PC shipments slipped 4.8% year-on-year to 23.1 million units in the second quarter of 2011. HP led the EMEA rankings with unit sales up 3.6% at 4.93 million units, pushing the vendor’s market share up to 21.4%. Acer’s unit sales slumped 34.9% to 3.26 million units. Read full story

Notebook sales rise in Romania

Notebook sales in Romania during the first quarter of 2011 climbed 11.1% year-on-year to hit 103,302 units according to research house IDC. In terms of vendor performance, the Romanian market remains dynamic, with Acer, Asus and Lenovo seeing a year-on-year sales decline, while HP, Toshiba and Dell all recorded solid growth. Ukrainian IT market rebounds

The value of the Ukrainian IT market increased 30% in 2010 to hit €1.02 billion (US$1.66 billion) from US$1.29 billion in 2009, according to the analysts at research house PMR. The 2010 market size was on a par with the market’s value of US$1.7 billion in 2005 but only half of the US$3.2 billion level recorded in 2007. Read full story

Gartner lowers 2011 PC forecast

Research house Gartner has lowered its 2011 global PC forecast with full year shipments now expected to climb 9.3% year-on-year to hit 385 million units. Gartner has previously forecast a 10.5% year-on-year growth for 2011. Gartner attributes the lower forecast to tighter consumer spending caused by economic uncertainty and an increased reliance on the business sector to drive sales. Read full story

Context reports PC sales slump in UK

Research house Context reckons that overall first quarter 2011 PC sales in the UK have been hit by a slump in consumer demand. Context claims that UK PC unit sales were down 7.7% year-on-year, compared to an overall European decline of just 2.9%. Read full story
