Western Europe PC sales climb in 2010

The latest data from channel research house Context has shown that Western European PC unit sales climbed 12.2% year-on-year in full year 2010. Fourth quarter unit sales were only up 3.2% on the previous year. According to Context, sales peaked in September 2010 before declining steadily in the fourth quarter. Despite the overall jump December unit sales were actually down 6.7% year-on-year with revenues for the month slipping 3.8%. Read full story

Technology firms boost paid search spend

New research from Covario has shown that spending for paid search advertising among its technology and consumer electronics clients climbed 27% year-on-year in 2010. Covario is a provider of search marketing software solutions and agency services. Google continued to dominate the paid search scene, with global market share of 78% and spending up 18% year-on-year, according to Covario. Read full story

Acer upbeat on EMEA monitor sales

Hardware vendor Acer has given itself a pat on the back for its performance in the EMEA monitor market during the third quarter of 2010. Acer took third spot in the vendor rankings with 13.1% market share and sequential growth of 42.3% compared to the previous quarter. Data released by research house Context showed that display sales climbed 13.4% sequentially in the third quarter, having dipped in the second quarter of 2010. Read full story

MERA Sales Index hits all time high

The Middle East Retail Academy (MERA) Monthly Monitor Report (MMR) Sales Index for October 2010 hit an all time high of 7.19 (scored out of 10). Driven by bumper technology sales during Gitex week - and successful promotions across the region - vendors and retailers pushed the Sales Index to 7.19 from 5.18 a month earlier. Read full story

IDC reveals third quarter PC data

Research house IDC has reported that EMEA PC shipments were up 10.5% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2010 at 27.8 million units. IDC reckoned that growth in Western Europe was softer than expected with a buoyant market in Central and Eastern Europe helping to drive the overall market growth. Read full story

EMEA PC shipments climb in third quarter

EMEA PC shipments for the third quarter of 2010 hit 27.3 million units – up 7.3% year-on-year – according to the analysts at Gartner. Acer took top spot, shifting 6.15 million units – down 0.2% year-on-year. HP’s volumes climbed 5.2% to 5.2 million units as the vendor took second spot. Dell came in third with Asus and Lenovo picking up fourth and fifth respectively. Read full story

Summer slowdown hits Middle East retail channel

The Middle East Retail Academy (MERA) Monthly Monitor Report (MMR) for July 2010 has laid bare the impact of the summer slowdown on trade levels. The MMR canvasses the opinion of IT and consumer electronics retailers and vendors across the Middle East. For July 2010, the MMR Sales Index fell to 5.21 – its second lowest level since the launch of the MMR in June 2009. The retailer Confidence Index plunged to a new record low of 4.46. Read full story
