Acer grabs top spot in Western Europe

Research house Gartner has delved into its data mountain to serve up some fourth quarter titbits on the PC market in Western Europe. According to Gartner, Apple made its debut as a top five vendor in France during the fourth quarter while Acer moved into the number one position across Western Europe as a whole. Read full story

Fourth quarter PC shipments climb in EMEA

Fourth quarter PC shipments climbed 3.6% year-on-year in EMEA to hit 29.66 million units. HP topped the vendor rankings in EMEA, shifting 6.01 million units, accounting for 21.6% of the total market. Fast-growing Acer is snapping at HP’s heels in second place with unit sales of 5.89 million for the quarter – an increase of 37.1% year-on-year. Read full story

Gartner offers European insight for third quarter

Research house Gartner has revealed that PC shipments in Western Europe fell 0.3% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2009 to 16.7m units. Despite the year-on-year drop, third quarter shipments were up 30% sequentially compared to the second quarter of 2009. Read full story

Acer claims MEA top spot for notebooks

Acer is claiming top spot for notebook sales in the Middle East and Africa region for the second quarter of 2009. Hardware giant Acer, citing figures from Gartner, is claiming 30.1% market share. Acer claims that the data from Gartner highlights its position as the preferred brand for both consumers and business users alike. Read full story

EMEA desktop sales suffer in third quarter

IDC has provided deeper insight into its third quarter analysis of the EMEA PC market. The research house concluded that the market contracted for the third consecutive quarter with shipments down 8% year-on-year at 24.68 million units, according to preliminary data. Desktop PC shipments were hardest hit, slumping 22.3% year-on-year as notebook form factors continued to grab market share. Read full story

Gartner reports third quarter weakness in EMEA PC market

Gartner has reported weak third quarter PC shipments in EMEA, with shipments down 10.1% year-on-year at 26 million units. Acer took top spot in the EMEA vendor rankings, accounting for 25.7% of all units shipped. Dell had a tough quarter with units shipped sliding 17.6% year-on-year to 2.29 million. Gartner attributed Dell’s weakness to its reliance on the weak professional market. Read full story
