Global PC shipments up in third quarter

Global PC shipments climbed 2.4% year-on-year to 78.1 million units in the third quarter of 2009, according to the numbercrunchers at IDC. Despite suffering a year-on-year decline, the EMEA market did show a sequential improvement driven by strong consumer demand in Western Europe. EMEA also benefited from netbook promotions by retailers and telcos plus aggressive pricing on mainstream notebooks. Read full story

IDC points to sluggish printer market in Egypt

The numbercrunchers at IDC reckon that Egypt’s hardcopy peripherals market is suffering during the current economic conditions. IDC reckons that shipments of hardcopy peripherals – including printers, MFPs and single function copiers – fell 37.2% year-on-year to 62,813 units in the second quarter of 2009. The value of shipments slumped 44.9% to US$23.18m. Read full story

Middle East CE & ICT retail confidence dips

The Middle East Retail Academy (MERA) Monthly Monitor Report for working month August showed a slight confidence dip regarding business prospects for the next three months. The report, which gathers together the opinions of the region’s leading CE & ICT vendors and retailers, showed the overall confidence index declining to 5.85 (scored out of 10) compared to 6.25 a month earlier. Middle East retail confidence climbs

ICT and CE retailers operating in the Middle East are showing an increased confidence in their business prospects for the next three months. The newfound optimism was detailed in the latest Monthly Monitor report from the Middle East Retail Academy (MERA). The overall confidence index for both retailers and vendors (scored out of 10) climbed to 6.25, up from just 5.54 a month earlier. Read full story

Slow recovery forecast for CIS channels

The latest regional report on the CIS region, published by PMR, predicts that demand for IT systems and hardware is expected to start a ‘slow recovery’ by the end of 2009.
