Brightstar divests European stake

Mobility distributor Brightstar has agreed to divest its 50% stake in its European joint venture to Tech Data for US$165.6m cash. Brightstar has announced that, despite the divestment, it plans to continue operating in Europe through a wholly-owned subsidiary. Read full story

Hellmich steps down as Also-Actebis CEO

Klaus Hellmich, CEO at European distribution giant Also-Actebis, is stepping down for personal reasons in order to pursue other opportunities outside the group. Hellmich has asked the distributor’s board of directors to release him from ‘operative responsibility’ according to Also-Actebis’ statement. Hellmich has spent more than two decades in IT distribution. Read full story

Also-Actebis extends Apple rights to Germany

European distribution giant Also-Actebis recently signed a new agreement with Apple covering Germany. The new deal builds on Also-Actebis’ existing distribution agreement with Apple covering Finland and Switzerland that has been in place for a number of years. Also-Actebis is confident that the extension of its channel rights to Germany will result in substantial growth of both sales and profits. Read full story

Autotask signs French distributor

Hosted IT business management software supplier Autotask has signed its first distributor in France. Autotask has appointed Aubellio as a distribution partner giving it access to the distributor’s 1,100 channel partners. The new agreement coincides with the first French version of the Autotask software which integrates a broad range of business systems, including CRM, service desk, human resource scheduling, project management, billing and reporting. Also-Actebis reports first quarter figures

European distribution giant Also-Actebis has reported first quarter 2012 sales down 8.1% year-on-year against comparable 2011 figures at US$1.94 billion. Net profits for the quarter climbed to US$18.1m – a profit margin of 0.9% - compared to just US$7.6m a year earlier on a comparable basis. Read full story

Distribution giant Ingram Micro’s EMEA operation has picked up three operational excellence awards at Microsoft’s regional partner conference. D-Link launches new channel programme

Networking vendor D-Link has launched its new ‘Value in Partnership+’ programme for resellers in Europe. The scheme is designed to combine sales support with greater rewards and incentives for resellers. VAD outfit Avnet Technology Solutions (ATS) has picked up IBM cloud builder certification status. ATS reckons that this further illustrates its commitment to the cloud computing market. This latest certification strengthens Avnet’s cloud proposition, cloudready, and showcases its ability to provide cloud solutions incorporating IBM software and hardware across Europe. Acer tops ultrabook distribution sales

PC vendor Acer is leading the way in terms of sales of ultrabooks through Western Europe’s distribution channel according to channel research specialists Context. Acer picked up an impressive 62% market share in terms of ultrabooks sold through the Western European distribution channel in the fourth quarter of 2011. Toshiba took second spot with Asus and Lenovo in third and fourth respectively. Read full story

New European structure at Tech Data

Distribution giant Tech Data has announced changes to its European structure with the creation of a new European executive board (EEB) and a decision to divide the market into two regions. Tech Data reckons that the changes will allow it to ‘optimise business efficiency’ between its European functions, specialist divisions and in-country operations. Read full story
