‘EMEA Channel Academy: 2010 Awards’ date confirmed

by Stuart Wilson, Friday 9 October 2009

The ‘EMEA Channel Academy: 2010 Awards’ will take place on Wednesday February 10th with a Gala Dinner at the Salle des Etoiles in Monaco. The awards are held in conjunction with DISTREE XXL, the premier ICT & CE channel distribution event in the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region.

“The guest list for the ‘EMEA Channel Academy: 2010 Awards’ includes the leading channel executives in the EMEA region – from vendors, distributors and e-tailers,” said Farouk Hemraj, CEO at DISTREE Events. “These awards represent the pinnacle of regional achievement for companies and individuals associated with the ICT & CE channel in EMEA.”

“The best awards have transparent and open voting processes,” added Hemraj. “That’s why we continue to use live electronic voting during the Gala Dinner. Commercial interests and the politics that can sometimes influence vendor and magazine awards do not come into consideration.”

The ‘EMEA Channel Academy: 2010 Awards’ will build on the success of last year’s inaugural event, with a total of 19 awards at the 2010 event. This includes 9 awards for distributors, 8 for vendors with the final 2 reserved for the 2010 inductees into the ‘EMEA Channel Academy: Hall of Fame’.

Vendor winners at the 2009 awards included Apple, Asus, HP, Intel, Kaspersky, Logitech, Microsoft and WD. In the distribution categories the list of winners included ABC Data, Actebis, Aptec, Elko, Esprinet, GNT, InfoQuest, Westcoast and Westcon Africa.

On receiving a distributor award at the last event, Aptec CEO Ali Baghdadi stated: “The [independence] is a very important part of the awards. While most international vendors acknowledge the achievements of their ’best’ distributors, an independent platform like this one is perhaps a more holistic view of who we are and our positioning on a wider regional level where our performance is judged on par with other distributors around the EMEA region.”

HP won the EMEA Printing Vendor of the Year Award for 2009. Tom Yeates, Director, Partner Sales, SPO at HP EMEA, commented: "This achievement singles out HP as a preferred partner for distributors from across the EMEA region and is testament to the strength and success of our channel engagement model."

The Voting Process

Distributor Awards: A VIP Vendor Jury consisting of 50 channel directors with regional responsibility is appointed prior to the awards. These 50 vendor executives independently select 5 distributors per award category. These results are collated with the 5 distributors receiving the most votes in each award category awarded an official nomination for the ‘EMEA Channel Academy: 2010 Awards’. During the Gala Dinner, members of the VIP Vendor Jury (plus a selection of extra vendors deemed to have sufficient market knowledge) use a live electronic voting process to select their preferred candidate from the 5 official nominations in each category. The winners are the distributors that receive the highest percentage of votes in their specific category.

Vendor Awards: A VIP Distributor Jury consisting of 50 senior executives from EMEA’s largest ICT & CE distributors is appointed prior to the awards. These 50 distribution executives independently select 5 vendors per award category. In addition, confirmed distributor attendees for DISTREE XXL also have the opportunity to select 5 vendors per award. These results are collated with the 5 distributors receiving the most votes in each award category awarded an official nomination for the ‘EMEA Channel Academy: 2010 Awards’. During the Gala Dinner, members of the VIP Jury plus the 400 volume distributors attending DISTREE XXL, use a live electronic voting process to select their preferred candidate from the 5 official nominations in each category. The winners are the vendors that receive the highest percentage of votes in each specific category.

Hall of Fame Awards: These two awards are based on lifetime achievement and contribution to the development of the EMEA distribution channel. The EMEA Channel Academy Executive Committee decides on the inductee for each category based on suggestions received from both official juries. The decision of the EMEA Channel Academy Executive Committee is final.
