Channel Connect ‘10 reveals major opportunities for UK resellers on the “Journey to Cloud Computing”

• Unique forum bringing together vendors and resellers • Equipping UK resellers to take a slice of a $150+ billion market • Gold sponsors and guest speakers include Cisco, VMware, EMC, Canalys and Scott Herold of VMGuru.com

BRACKNELL, UK – Magirus, a leading European IT solutions provider, has today announced the launch of its ‘Channel Connect ‘10’ series of seminars for resellers. They will be held on the 11th and 20th May in Leeds and Ascot, respectively. Sponsors include VMware, EMC and Cisco.

Channel Connect ‘10 will give resellers a unique insight into the “Journey to Cloud Computing.” The forum has been designed specifically to help resellers to capitalise on the shift from traditional data centre technologies to converged or unified data centres and, ultimately, cloud computing. According to industry analysts the journey to cloud computing represents one of the largest market opportunities in the past 10 years. Gartner predicts the global market to be worth more than $150 billion by 2013, while Merrill Lynch puts it at more than $160 billion by 2011.

A key aspect of Channel Connect ’10 is to provide advice to resellers on the different business models for evolving traditional data centres to hybrid systems and eventually to cloud computing. There will be a focus on the infrastructure needed on the journey to cloud computing; in particular the future of converged virtualisation, storage and networking technologies. Industry experts will detail the need for strategic consultancy skills and how resellers should position themselves now to become a ‘trusted cloud’ provider in the future.

Denise Bryant, UK managing director, Magirus said, “In this risk-averse market we realise that not all resellers and their customers are ready to take the leap into cloud computing. Our intention is to outline to resellers the different steps to cloud computing that they can take now, and others that can be left for the future. By adopting a collaborative model between reseller, distributor and vendor we can help resellers de-risk entry into this market space.” Resellers will hear from experts such as Alastair Edwards from industry analyst firm, Canalys who will demystify the data centre and cloud computing market and pin-point growth opportunities for resellers. Also, offering an ‘Independent view of the cloud’ is Scott Herold, founder and owner of VMGuru.com and the lead architect of Virtualisation for Quest Software. Herold is a pioneer in architecting advanced virtualisation solutions for many Fortune 100 organisations. Other speakers include the event’s Gold sponsors: Andy Macqueen, sales business development manager, Cisco; Colin Fisher, EMC’s business development manager for the VMware Alliance & Private Cloud; and Russ Fairman, VMware’s Cisco/EMC strategic alliance manager. They will inform attendees on how today’s leading organisations are already using the latest technologies to create flexible data centre and cloud-computing solutions.

The seminars will take place on Tuesday, 11th May at Oulton Hall in Leeds and on Thursday, 20th May at The Berystede Hotel in Ascot. Andrew Binding, vice- president, Northern Europe region at Magirus, who will be speaking at the events commented, “Channel Connect ’10 brings vendors and resellers together in a unique forum, where resellers can hear first hand how they can take a slice of this rapidly growing market. We will lift the covers on new technologies and show resellers how they can future-proof their clients.” Magirus will run several technical demonstrations, for example, ‘Be cloud-ready with Unified Storage.’ Vendors featured, in addition to the main sponsors, include: Datacore, Veeam, Vizioncore and Novell.

Attendees can meet the vendor experts in the ‘Geek Zone’ and ask them those tough technical questions they have always wanted answers to.

Channel Connect ‘10 is free to attend for resellers on a first come, first served basis. Anyone wishing to attend should register at http://magirus-events.co.uk/magirus-channel-connect-10/
