Zotac signs exclusive Sky deal for GCC

by Stuart Wilson, Monday 28 April 2008

VGA and motherboard vendor Zotac has officially launched its Middle East operation at an event in Dubai. Zotac has also confirmed the appointment of Sky Electronics as exclusive distribution partner for the GCC region. The Zotac launch event, which was hosted by Sky and Nvidia, was attended by dealers and power retailers and.

“The Middle East is a huge market and a very important one for Zotac. We are happy to launch our Middle East operations, which will be led by Mohammed Ibrahim, our regional manager for the Middle East,” said Carsten Berger, marketing director at Zotac International.

“Zotac with Nvidia not only means superb quality, it also means high performance, absolute reliability and great value. Zotac aims to provide the best VGA cards to this market and we hope to tap the potential with our exclusive distributor for the GCC, Sky Electronics. We are confident that our partnership with Sky Electronics will help us achieve our targets in the region.”

Zotac is part of PC Partner, a leading Nvidia AIC partner. Zotac is headquartered in Hong King with manufacturing capability in China and regional sales offices in Europe, Asia Pacific and North America. Sky Electronics plans to promote Zotac’s full range of graphics cards through the reseller, dealer and retail channels. Sky will also produce PCs with Zotac VGA cards as part of their Expeditor and Expression PC ranges.

“Sky is pleased to sign up with Zotac and promote their products in this region. Our philosophy is to emphasize on service, warranty and to promote the latest and best technology and in Zotac we have found the right partner who not only matches our mindsets but also meets our customers’ needs. With the relevance of the CPU decreasing, customers are now realizing that the GPU is becoming the decisive factor in determining their PC’s performance. Zotac is known for its superior products, unique brand recognition and attractive retail packaging, which is definitely a plus in retail sales,” explained Manoj Thacker, managing director at Sky Electronics.

Sky plans to organise further promotional events for Zotac kit in Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia in the near future.

CE ANALYSIS: Ibrahim has a background in the Middle East VGA space having previously spent time working for Sapphire. Zotac’s decision to sign an exclusive distribution agreement with Sky defies the conventional channel wisdom of steering clear of such deals. Sky’s ability to assemble PCs with Zotac GPUs built-in probably sweetened the deal, but nevertheless, there is always an element of risk attached to an exclusive distribution agreement.
