‘MERA: 2010 Awards’ – VENDOR NOMINATIONS REVEALED

by Stuart Wilson, Tuesday 11 May 2010

The Middle East Retail Academy (MERA) has revealed the official list of nominated companies for vendor awards in 2010, based on the selection of a retailer jury and MERA members. More than 160 retail executives from across the region will use live electronic voting devices to select their preferred vendor in each award category at the ‘MERA: 2010 Awards’ Gala Dinner, which takes place on May 19th in Fujairah, UAE, in conjunction with Digital Consumer Channel (DCC) Middle East & Africa (MEA).

Now in its third year, the MERA Awards have become the benchmark of excellence for vendors selling through the regional retail channel. A total of ten product category awards are up for grabs with the five vendors that polled the most votes in the selection process officially nominated. “Each and every vendor that has received an official nomination should be proud of their achievement,” explained Farouk Hemraj, organiser of the ‘MERA: 2010 Awards’. “These are truly the top vendors in their category as voted for by the retailers themselves.”

“The ‘MERA: 2010 Awards are built on a fair and transparent voting system that culminates in a live electronic voting session,” Hemraj added. “These awards are not necessarily won by the vendor that happens to sell the most. Retailers are asked to evaluate vendors on their overall channel strategy, inventory management, margin potential, marketing, merchandising, training and customer support.”

The five confirmed nominees for each vendor award are:

Desktop/Notebooks/Netbooks: Retail Vendor of the Year – Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Toshiba

Digital Lifestyle: Retail Vendor of the Year – Apple, Logitech, Merlin, Philips, Samsung

Accessories: Retail Vendor of the Year – Belkin, Genius, Logitech, Microsoft, Targus

Imaging: Retail Vendor of the Year – Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Samsung, Sony

Storage: Retail Vendor of the Year – Imation, Iomega, Sandisk, Seagate, WD

Printing: Retail Vendor of the Year – Brother, Canon, Epson, HP, Samsung

Home Networking: Retail Vendor of the Year – Buffalo, Belkin, Cisco, D-Link, Netgear

Gaming: Retail Vendor of the Year – Electronic Arts, Logitech, Microsoft, Nintendo, Sony

Mobile Communications: Retail Vendor of the Year – Apple, Blackberry, HTC, Nokia, Samsung

LCD/Plasma TVs: Retail Vendor of the Year – LG, Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, Sony

A total of 36 separate vendors have received official nominations for the ‘MERA: 2010 Awards’ vendor categories. Of these 36 vendors, nine have received nominations in multiple product categories. Samsung leads the way with five nominations, followed by Sony and Logitech with three each. Apple, HP, Microsoft, Philips, Belkin and Canon all received official nominations in two categories.

“The MERA Awards continue to grow and develop every year,” added Hemraj. “It promises to be an exciting night on May 19th and we look forward to welcoming representatives from all the nominated vendors to the Gala Dinner.”

DCC MEA 2010

This year’s Digital Consumer Channel (DCC) Middle East & Africa (MEA) event takes place from May 18-20th. DCC is the ultimate professional networking event for senior executives from the consumer electronics, digital device and ICT products retail channel in the MEA region. DCC MEA is a focused event for retail executives based on the successful concept of bringing high-level buyers from emerging markets into productive contact with vendors.

DCC MEA regularly attracts more than 160 senior executives from MEA’s consumer electronics, digital device and ICT products retail channel. These include the powerful buyers and decision makers responsible for product selection for the retailers they represent. Not only is DCC MEA a powerful business platform, it is also an annual networking function allowing vendors to meet face-to-face with both existing and potential new retail partners from across the region.

For retail executives, attending DCC MEA is time well spent. In just three days you can hold dozens of face-to-face meetings with existing and potential new vendors, meet with your peers from across the region, find out more about the latest industry trends and market data. All this at one and much more at one exclusive event: DCC MEA, the ‘must-attend’ event for vendors and retailers associated with MEA’s consumer electronics, digital device and ICT products channel.
