Magirus launches DC Traction

by Stuart Wilson, Monday 4 October 2010

European VAD Magirus has whipped the covers off DC Traction, a channel enablement initiative designed to help resellers new to Cisco data centre technology to enter this market. DC Traction includes structured accreditation and certification training courses free of charge, business planning, pre- and post-sales support and marketing and lead generation for resellers.

Magirus will select 40 to 50 resellers to work with in the UK. The VAD will focus on partners selling virtualisation or storage solutions, often in a data centre environment. Magirus will look to give them the skills and ability to sell networking and server technologies as well. Magirus will also target Cisco partners that are not accredited to sell Cisco’s data centre portfolio.

“Resellers risk being left behind,” said Denise Bryant, UK managing director at Magirus. “With convergence taking place in data centres, customers are increasingly looking for partners able to deliver a complete solution as opposed to only one or two components. Until now there has been no way to de-risk what for many will be a natural progression for their virtualisation or storage business.”

DC Traction addresses head-on the barriers to market entry such as skills transfer, technical and marketing support, and accreditation and certification. Partners joining the initiative will be consulted and provided a roadmap tailored to their business needs.

Sam Routledge, services director at UK reseller Softcat, said: “What sets Magirus apart is the extraordinary level of technical and business enablement support they give partners seeking to enter new markets. Magirus was invaluable in helping us establish our virtualisation practice, which is now regarded as a market leader. DC Traction is set to replicate this successful model in the data centre space.”
