Ingram Micro EMEA bags Blackberry deal
by Stuart Wilson, Monday 6 December 2010
Ingram Micro EMEA has been appointed as an official distributor for the full portfolio of Blackberry smartphones, accessories, software and technical support services in nine European countries. The deal covers Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, UK and Ireland, with a specific focus on growth in the enterprise and SMB segments.
Alain Maquet, president at Ingram Micro EMEA, said: “Today’s announcement is a strong testament to Ingram Micro’s commitment to drive growth in the telecommunications segment. Earlier this year we established a separate telecommunications division and have been growing our product portfolio steadily with innovative and unique mobile products.”
“We are very pleased to be now offering the full line of Blackberry products and services to our customers across Europe. With over 30 years of experience as the world leader in IT distribution, we are ideally positioned to build a unique value proposition to resellers and telco operators alike,” Maquet added.
In April 2010, Pierre-Yvon Mechali was appointed executive director and general manager of Ingram Micro EMEA’s telecoms unit. Ingram Micro has established a team of telecommunications experts across Europe and now plans to implement tailored strategies in each country.
Mechali commented: “The value of supply aggregation is becoming more apparent as mobile PCs and smartphone capabilities converge. Ingram Micro brings decades of experience in IT distribution and is extending that knowledge and expertise to deliver solutions to resellers, vendors and telco operators in this expanding segment.”
“Our news today about offering the suite of Blackberry products and services is just the first in a series. In the coming weeks we will announce several new accessories and software vendors as we further differentiate ourselves across Europe and establish our leadership in the telecom segment,” Mechali added.
Through its telecommunications strategy, Ingram Micro EMEA hopes to extend its logistics offerings with a tailored service offering designed to meet the expectations of resellers, retailers, mobile network operators and mobile virtual network operators. In addition, Ingram Micro hopes to boost its product line by significantly increasing its brand coverage in netbooks, smartphones and accessories across EMEA.
