INTERVIEW: Karsten Micke, Hotsplots

Hotspot solutions provider Hotsplots has confirmed its participation at regional channel event DISTREE EMEA. The company plans to accelerate its international expansion in 2016 and is looking to open up new international business opportunities outside its home market of Germany. Channel EMEA caught up with Karsten Micke, head of international sales at Hotsplots, to learn more about the company’s plans.

Fast and secure

Channel EMEA (CE): What do you want to achieve at DISTREE EMEA 2016? What are your key goals for the event?

Karsten Micke (KM): With our participation at this year’s DISTREE EMEA 2016, we want to establish new partnerships and distribution channels all over Europe as the European market leader for both mobile and stationary professional hotspot solutions.

Hotsplots offers professional public hotspot solutions for both stationary and mobile purposes. We are able to provide fast and secure wireless internet connections to almost every location, even buses or trains. Our technology’s strength is proven thousands of time daily in hotels and restaurants, in hospitals, youth hostels, dormitories, libraries, cities, events and fairs and ski resorts.

Besides the technical features, we are also offering to our customers a comprehensive legal protection by our VPN-routing service. With this innovative technology, the total data traffic of the customer’s hotspot is redirected through a powerful Hotsplots VPN server and thereby the customer’s IP address becomes unrecognisable. So Hotsplots is in charge of legal issues arising from abusive use of the hotspot.

In addition, customers also benefit from a comprehensive access control. The operator of the hotspot can also decide whether his clients can go online using time or data volume tickets or by simply accepting the general terms and conditions with just one click. Our latest service is our wireless on-demand entertainment package enabling our customers to offer to their clients exciting movies, shows, TV series as well as music and digital magazines on their own mobile devices such as smartphones, tablet PCs or laptops.

Bosch cooperation

CE: How has Hotsplots channel business has developed in the past 12 months? What trends have you seen and what have been the highlights for your business?

KM: During the recent months we have successfully strengthened our international business both in the areas of stationary and mobile hotspots solutions. In this process of our business development we have learned that there is a huge demand for professional WLAN hotspots in almost all business areas. We see a large growth potential in the area of mobile internet solutions for buses and trains and we’re proud to have established a worldwide cooperation with Bosch in the field of wireless internet solutions for buses and coaches. We’ve also won new international clients such as the ski resort Davos-Klosters in Switzerland.

CE: Which geographic areas and channels represent the greatest opportunity for growth for Hotsplots in EMEA?

KM: We see a great growth potential for Hotsplots throughout Europe and we have already adapted our international strategy and roll out plans accordingly. In the past 11 years Hotsplots has achieved rapid growth demonstrating that the national and international demand for professional, safe and secure WLAN hotspots is greater than ever before. At the same time we have benefited from our growth and our innovative technologies, enabling us to constantly improve our services and offers.

With this sustainable strategy we have become the market leader for wireless internet communications. This success story combined with our fair and transparent partner model makes Hotsplots an interesting partner for distributors throughout Europe. We are offering fair, transparent and lucrative long-term channel programmes and commission models for our distributors and partners.

International WLAN minutes

CE: What sort of support do you offer channel partners in terms of marketing, promotions and business development activities?

KM: Hotsplots has built a strong and reliable network of professional partners in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. This network enables us to plan, install, and bring into operation and to maintain our hotspots solutions, all in a very short period of time. We are supporting our partners with additional marketing materials such as brochures, flyers and promotions. In addition to our partner network, Hotsplots also has entered into several strategic partnerships with national and international suppliers and distributors resulting in a constant expansion of our offers and services. At present we are establishing additional partner and distributor networks all over Europe.

CE: How quickly is your business growing in the EMEA region? What market trends have you identified that are impacting your business segment?

KM: We are at the beginning of the realisation of our European strategy and have seen very strong interest and great potential in the fields of stationary and mobile hotspots. This potential can also be seen in the increase of international WLAN minutes generated by us that rose from 2.7 billion in 2013 to a stunning 9 billion in 2015.

CE: Is Hotsplots channel friendly? What are your overall channel goals and aims for 2016 in EMEA?

KM: Inside our partners and suppliers networks we are working with transparent and fair models from which both parties can benefit. A large number of customers and partners have formed a profitable long-term partnership with Hotsplots. As we are expanding our distributor networks by adding new partners it is a chance for more companies to become part of our strong, reliable and profitable network.
