Samsung lifts lid on 2010 MENA sales

Consumer electronics (CE) and IT powerhouse Samsung has lifted the lid on its sales in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. In 2010, Samsung’s sales in MENA climbed 34% year-on-year to US$4.4 billion driven by stronger sales demand and improved partner relationships. The revenues contributed 3.2% of Samsung’s global sales of US$135.8 billion.
Samsung is determined to continue its regional sales growth in 2011 under the slogan of ‘Smarter Life’. The vendor reckons that innovations in internet-connected TVs, digital cameras and the latest mobile technologies will help to fuel growth.
Sangsuk Roh, president of Samsung Electronics Levant, said: “We are aiming to gain the number one position in all MENA countries through our focus on smart TV, 3D and home appliances. During 2011 we will also continue to focus on high-end smartphones – new models with the latest features and applications.”
Roh reckons that strong oil prices and increased government investment will drive the regional economy, but competition in the market will remain fierce. Major vendors are also having to assess the impact of political unrest in the region.
