MERA has also announced some significant changes to the retailer award categories and voting process for the 2011 awards. During the past 18 months, MERA has offered its members a monthly report service giving vendors, retailers and distributors the opportunity to have their say on market conditions.

“This Monthly Monitor Report (MMR) has resulted in a significant database of continuous information that will now be used to help determine retailer winners at the ‘MERA: 2011 Awards’,” explained Farouk Hemraj, CEO at DISTREE Events, the organisers of the awards.

The following retailer categories will be covered in the ‘MERA: 2011 Awards’:

Retailer of the Year – UAE

Retailer of the Year – Saudi Arabia

Retailer of the Year – Bahrain

Retailer of the Year – Kuwait

Retailer of the Year – Oman

Retailer of the Year – Qatar

Retailer of the Year – Egypt

Retailer of the Year – Jordan

Retailer of the Year – Lebanon

Retailer of the Year – Syria

During the Gala Dinner and ‘MERA: 2011 Awards’ ceremony the top three retailers in each geography will be announced and given the recognition they deserve for their overall business performance during the last 12 months.

“It is important to recognise the diversity of ICT & CE retail channel talent that exists across the Middle East market,” added Hemraj. “Using the data we have gathered throughout the year and recognising three retailers per country gives everyone a much clearer picture of the current market landscape.”

"The announcement of the three winning retailers per category will take place on the night during the Gala Dinner. It promises to be an exciting evening for everyone concerned," he added.
