The ‘Middle East Retail Academy (MERA): 2011 Awards’ recognised the top performing retailers across 10 countries within the region. Now in their fourth year, the MERA Awards utilised vendor feedback from the past 12 months to identify three retailers per country that all now hold ‘MERA Recommended Retailer’ status until next year’s awards.

For the past 18 months, MERA has offered its members a regular Monthly Monitor Report (MMR) service giving vendors, retailers and distributors the opportunity to have their say on market conditions.

The top three retailers per country were determined based on the total number of mentions received by vendors in the MMR during the last 12 months.

Vendors completing the MMR feedback form select their preferred retailer by country each month based on a combination of factors including pricing, marketing, sales, POS activities, promotions and business relations.

Across the 10 countries, 7 different retailers won Retailer of the Year Awards, with a total of 20 different retail chains picking up ‘MERA Recommended Retailer’ status. The full list of this year’s ‘MERA Recommended Retailers’ is as follows:

The ‘Middle East Retail Academy (MERA): 2011 Awards took place on May 18th in conjunction with Digital Consumer Channel (DCC) Middle East & Africa (MEA) – the premier event for the region’s ICT and consumer electronics (CE) retailers, distributors and vendors.

“The MMR has resulted in a significant database of continuous information that was used to determine ’Recommended Retailers’ at the ‘MERA: 2011 Awards’,” explained Farouk Hemraj, CEO at DISTREE Events, the organisers of the awards. "This process creates greater transparency and we look forward to working with vendors and retailers to continue to collect their market feedback during the next 12 months."
