GITEX 2012: Channel updates

by Stuart Wilson, Friday 21 September 2012

It’s coming up to that time of year again. Traditional trade show GITEX is taking place from the 14-18th October in Dubai. As always, we’re going to keep an eye on the news and announcements coming out in the run-up to the event and during the show itself. Just keep checking back here to stay up to speed on the latest announcements. We’re planning a particular focus on all things ‘channel’.

StorIT adds Emulex to portfolio

17/10/12 Storage VAD StorIT has struck a regional distribution deal with Emulex, a networking solutions, data centre and SAN management provider. Under the terms of the deal, StorIT will distribute Emulex solutions across the Middle East region, with a particular focus on Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain and Kuwait. Emulex joins StorIT’s portfolio of vendors that includes EMC, Quantum, Mellanox, Moonwalk and QLogic.

"We are very excited with the potential opportunities that this new partnership presents for both StorIT and Emulex," said Bobby Joseph, CEO at StorIT.

Craig Skelton, channel director at Emulex, said: "When we were looking for a potential Middle East partner, we had wanted to tie up with a go-to-market partner with the relationships and momentum to break us out into motivated data centre partners. Our decision to partner with StorIT demonstrates our confidence in the company’s capacity to deliver and provide value added service to its rapidly growing customer base in the region.”

Praizar looks for Nakivo resellers

17/10/12 IT solutions distributor Praizar is looking to add some Nakivo resellers in the Middle East during GITEX 2012. Nakivo, a VMware technology alliance partner, will release its Nakivo back-up and replication product on 30th October 2012.

"Nakivo has made it easier for VMware channel partners to sell back-up and replication to their customers. Nakivo back-up and replication is simple to install, simple to use and simple to cost," said Helen Rankin, client services director for Praizar Jargon-free IT.

Bruce Talley, CEO at Nakivo, added: "Demand for new VM data protection solutions that can include an element of low cost public cloud for offsite storage, is continuing to grow rapidly. Praizar is a leader in delivering innovative virtualised and cloud-based IT solutions for SMBs, making them our distribution partner of choice for the Middle East."

StorIT dances with Moonwalk

16/10/12 Middle East and North Africa (MENA) storage VAD StorIT has added Moonwalk to its vendor portfolio. Moonwalk specialises in large-scale data management solutions. The new partnership hopes to give businesses in the MENA region access to more efficient data management and archiving solutions.

Under the terms of the deal, StorIT will exclusively distribute Moonwalk’s range of large-scale data solutions. Moonwalk joins StorIT’s portfolio of vendors that includes EMC, Quantum, Mellanox and QLogic.

"Entering into this strategic new alliance with Moonwalk gives us the advantage of offering a unique product that addresses the need to manage complex, data management through the tiers of storage and is comparatively economical as it is a software only solution," said Bobby Joseph, CEO at StorIT.

Peter Harvey, CEO at Moonwalk, added: "Over the last few months, we have seen vendors turning to our key range of solutions as an essential component for their storage offerings. Our tie-up with StorIT will now allow them to provide its customers with an additional immediate turnkey solution for managing the migration, copying and movement of data while also minimising expenditure.”

10/10/12 Chinese IT outfit Huawei is planning its biggest ever participation at GITEX showcasing solutions from its carrier, enterprise and consumer business groups. Huawei will be promoting its ‘cloud-pipe-device’ strategy as it looks to evolve into a complete end-to-end ICT solutions provider.
