i2 targets Sub-Sahara region

Mobile phone distribution and retail giant i2 had officially opened a new office in Johannesburg, South Africa, as the company sets its sights on rapid expansion in the Sub-Saharan region. The new regional office will oversee i2 activities in Ghana, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Angola, Reunion and Senegal. i2 plans to aggressively ramp up the number of retail outlets it has in the Sub-Saharan region.

Abdul Hameed Al Sunaid, CEO at i2, said: “Opening a head office in Johannesburg is an integral proceeding to further expand our geographical scope. The Sub-Sahara is a significant market in regards with its dynamism and the awareness of its population. Therefore, i2 constantly seeks to satisfy the needs and tastes of its consumers by offering them a diverse range of Nokia and IT products and by evolving its services to add value and enhance the clients shopping experience.”

i2 has positioned itself as a principal retailer, wholesaler and distributor of mobile phones and IT products across the Middle East and Africa. The company’s decision to open a head office in Johannesburg is expected to boost operational effectiveness.

”2007 was a booming year as we effectively maintained our business success in all our markets across the Middle East and Africa as well as entered new untapped markets to secure our position as leaders in the telecommunication industry and seize every opportunity to enhance the value and productivity of our company. Our new office will enable us to carry on our growth drive and will allow us to streamline our African operations.” concluded Al Sunaid.

To date, i2 is present in 22 countries and operates 340 stores in the Middle East and Africa region, offering a wide range of mobile phones, PDAs, wireless technology, software, value added services and mobile accessories.

i2 recently revealed that its gross sales hit US$2bn in 2007. i2, which has distribution and retail operations across the Middle East and Africa, doubled the number of Nokia handsets it sold year-on-year to 12.3 million in 2007 as gross sales rocketed 43%.
