Positivo and BGH announce African joint venture

by Stuart Wilson, Thursday 27 November 2014

Brazil-based PC and device brand Positivo Informatica has announced an expansion of its international manufacturing joint venture with BGH Group. After success in Latin America, Positivo and BGH have now set their sights on opportunities in Africa. The two companies have signed an agreement with the government of Rwanda to produce and sell educational devices under the Positivo BGH brand in the national market.

Positivo and BGH already work together in Argentina and Uruguay and will now build a 7,500 square metre facility in Kigali, Rwanda. The facility will have a total monthly nominal production capacity of 60,000 PCs and tablets.

The agreement with the local government envisages a minimum contract volume of 750,000 units, with the delivery schedule distributed through five years. Deliveries are expected to begin in the first half of 2015 and at least 50,000 educational laptops should be billed until December, according to Positivo.

The scheme will promote the concept of technology use in the classroom for elementary and high school students in Rwanda, in association with the Ministry of Education. The devices will be pre-loaded with educational content.

Positivo and BGH will also look for additional clients, projects and markets that can be served from its facility in Rwanda. The move into Africa is aligned with Positivo’s goal to diversify its business through internationalisation and the introduction of new products and sales channels.
