MERA 2012 – RETAILER NOMINATIONS

The Middle East Retail Academy (MERA) has released the official list of retailer nominations for its 2012 awards, which take place in conjunction with DISTREE Middle East. A total of 26 retailers have received nominations across ten country categories, with seven retailers nominated in multiple categories. Each nominated company has earned ‘MERA 2012 Recommended Retailer’ status for the next 12 months. An overall winner in each country will be determined by a live electronic vendor vote at the ‘MERA: 2012 Awards’ Gala Dinner on May 16th. Read full story

MERA 2012 – VENDOR NOMINATIONS

The Middle East Retail Academy (MERA) has announced the official vendor nominations for its 2012 awards. Hundreds of senior retail executives from across the region will vote live for the overall winners across 11 product categories during a Gala Dinner held on May 16th in conjunction with DISTREE Middle East. The shortlist of vendor nominations has been constructed using continuous feedback data from retailers during the last 12 months. Read full story

MERA 2012 – RETAILER MARKETING NOMINATIONS

The Middle East Retail Academy (MERA) is now accepting nominations for the 2012 Retailer Marketing Initiative of the Year Award. Entries for this award, which is open to all ICT and consumer electronics (CE) retailers operating in the Middle East, will be judged by a VIP Jury on a number of criteria including innovation, creativity, sales performance, impact on margin, footfall created and overall market impact. New venue for DISTREE Russia & CIS 2012

DISTREE Events has confirmed a new venue and amended dates for DISTREE Russia & CIS 2012 – the region’s premier annual channel summit. The event, which gathers together 600-plus senior channel executives from across the region, will now take place in the Pulkovskaya Radisson Hotel in St. Petersburg from June 21st until June 23rd. Russia to become world’s fourth largest PC market

Russia will become the world’s fourth largest PC market in 2012 with full year PC shipments of more than 13.5m according to research house IDC. More PCs will be sold in Russia than in Germany during the course of the year. Dmitri Konash, Intel’s general manager of Russia, believes it is possible for Russia to ship 16 million PCs in 2012. "That would mean 20% [year-on-year] growth," he commented. Read full story

Infoblox debuts new channel programme

Network control solutions outfit Infoblox has whipped the covers off a new channel programme designed to help channel partners access new opportunities and boost profitability. The new partner programme, which is called ‘Invest & Profit’ (IP), is designed to help channel partners address pressing enterprise IT issues including virtualisation, cloud, datacentre consolidation, security, compliance and IPv6 readiness. DAY 3 – Whitman claims HP has got its swagger back

Most CEOs hit the stage on day one of a global partner summit to lay down the strategy and enable other executives to stay ‘on message’ for the rest of the conference. The 3,000-plus delegates at HP’s global partner summit in Las Vegas had to wait until day three to hear from Meg Whitman, president and CEO at the vendor giant. Whitman made the right pro-channel noises during her keynote this morning and the clarity of her message was applauded by partners. DAY 2 – ‘Partnership is the only way we know at HP...’

Day two of the HP global partner conference in Las Vegas kicked off with keynote speeches from Vyomesh Joshi, executive VP at HP IPG, and Todd Bradley, executive VP at HP PSG. In terms of products, HP whipped the covers off a snazzy new all-in-one workstation – the Z1 - leading to an entertaining photographer scrum at the front of the auditorium. Read full story

DAY 1 - HP silent on smartphone strategy (for now)

Day one of the HP global partner conference in Las Vegas is drawing to a close and the vendor giant has been quick out of the blocks with a number of announcements relating to services, infrastructure and channel-led cloud offerings. On the PSG side, there were inevitable questions regarding HP’s future strategy in the tablet and smartphone product segments, but clear cut answers were thin on the ground. In one press session, Todd Bradley, executive VP of PSG, said: “Right now our focus looking ahead is on Windows 8 tablets. Frankly, we have some strategic work to do on the role we are playing in the smartphone space and we’re not prepared to talk about that.” Read full story

‘ECA 2012 awards’ – DISTRIBUTOR INITIATIVE

The shortlist of nominated companies for the ‘EMEA Channel Academy: 2012 Awards’ EMEA Distributor Initiative of the Year category has been revealed. In the run-up to this year’s awards, which take place on February 9th in conjunction with DISTREE EMEA, hundreds of distributors from across the region were invited to submit application packs for this award. A VIP jury selected the top four entries and the overall winner will be announced at a Gala Dinner on Thursday evening. Read full story
