EMEA PC market recovery continues

Research house IDC’s latest EMEA data points to a continued recovery in the region’s PC market. IDC reckons that second quarter sales were up 21.1% year-on-year with almost 24 million PCs shipped. According to IDC, the market exceeded expectations in both the commercial and consumer segments. Read full story

Cloud dominates Microsoft partner conference

Microsoft is using its worldwide partner conference this week to articulate its cloud-based future to more than 14,000 delegates. Microsoft is focusing on how the cloud will impact the role of the partner in delivering services to customers. Microsoft is promoting its new Windows Azure platform appliance and announced partnerships with eBay, Dell, HP and Fujitsu. Read full story

‘MERA: 2010 Awards’ – INDIVIDUAL WINNERS

There were ten individual accolades handed out at last week’s ‘Middle East Retail Academy (MERA): 2010 Awards’. ‘MERA: 2010 Awards’ – VENDOR WINNERS

There were ten vendor awards up for grabs at the ‘Middle East Retail Academy (MERA): 2010 Awards’ held last week in the UAE in conjunction with Digital Consumer Channel (DCC) Middle East & Africa (MEA). Hundreds of retail executives from across MEA voted live using electronic devices to determine the winner of each vendor award. ‘MERA: 2010 Awards’ – VENDOR NOMINATIONS REVEALED

The Middle East Retail Academy (MERA) has revealed the official list of nominated companies for vendor awards in 2010, based on the selection of a retailer jury and MERA members. Asbis reflects on tough 2009

Emerging markets distribution powerhouse Asbis has published its annual report for 2009. In a frank letter to shareholders, Siarhei Kostevitch, Asbis chairman and CEO, admitted: “Last year was the most challenging and certainly the most difficult year of my business life. The world’s financial crisis had affected all sectors of the economy and IT distribution could not be an exemption. The consequences of this crisis were multiple and in all countries of the group’s operations.” Read full story
