Pirated Xbox games seized in UAE

Microsoft Gulf has announced the seizure of 29,000 pirated Xbox games during a coordinated series of raids across the UAE. In total, 21 separate raids were carried out in reseller stores in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah. The raids are designed to reduce the spread of pirated Xbox 360 games and support the region’s legitimate resellers. Read full story

HP’s ‘’ midmarket bet

HP has whipped the covers off a new channel and customer initiative to target midmarket companies of between 1,000 and 10,000 employees. The name ‘’ does not it seems refer to the odds of HP’s latest initiative actually succeeding. The new ‘’ initiative includes new software, an enhanced partner programme and a research survey targeted at the midmarket with the ultimate aim of encouraging data centre simplification. Dell opens up SIC facilities to partners

Hardware giant Dell has announced that it will make its full range of solution innovation centre (SIC) facilities available to its PartnerDirect certified partners. SIC services will be offered on site in Limerick, Ireland and Frankfurt, Germany, and also remotely. Dell is currently registering partners for the SIC facilities and expects them to start using the facilities by the beginning of July. Read full story

Dell and Microsoft team up on server sales

Dell and Microsoft have teamed up to offer VARs a more flexible approach to buying server software and hardware. The Microsoft OEM reseller option kit (ROK) is aimed at VARs wishing to purchase Microsoft’s OEM operating system and Dell PowerEdge servers separately. Dell claims that ROK is part of its commitment to providing technology solutions that offer the highest flexibility and value and the least complexity. Read full story

Al-Futtaim CEO to speak at DCC MEA

Robert A. Willett, the recently appointed group CEO at Al-Futtaim, will deliver the opening keynote speech at this year’s Digital Consumer Channel (DCC) Middle East & Africa (MEA) event. Willett previously served as CEO of Best Buy International – a strategic business unit of US consumer electronics and IT retail giant Best Buy. He was also Chairman of Best Buy Europe – the unit that formed a joint venture with Carphone Warehouse – until his retirement from the role in January 2010. Read full story

Synaxon UK passes sales milestone

Reseller group Synaxon UK has reported that sales to its members from Ingram Micro broke the £2m (US$3m) barrier for the first time in March 2010. The sales milestone comes just over a year since Ingram Micro started working with Synaxon in the UK. Read full story
