Jacky’s revamps Dubai Mall outlet

UAE retailer Jacky’s has revamped its flagship retail outlet in Dubai Mall, claiming that it will offer a seamless shopping experience for customers. “Through this new concept, our flagship showroom at The Dubai Mall will allow customers to make the right decision when making a purchase, giving them better interaction and engagement,” explained Mahesh Chotrani, assistant VP at Jacky’s Electronics. Singapore retailer establishes Challenge Ventures

Singapore-listed Challenger Technologies has established a new subsidiary, Challenge Ventures, to focus on investing in companies and businesses to complement Challenger’s existing business. The company is prepared to inject up to SGD20m (US$13.95m) into Challenge Ventures if suitable investments can be identified. Challenger Technologies currently operates a chain of IT retail stores known as Challenger as well as lifestyle retail concepts such as audio specialty store Musica in Singapore. Read full story

Fnac makes offer for Darty

The French technology retail channel looks set for further consolidation. Fnac has put forward a £533m (US$806.5m) share-based offer to acquire Darty. The two companies will make further announcements on the deal’s progress as appropriate. Fnac claims that the combination of Fnac and Darty offers a compelling strategic and financial opportunity for both groups by creating a leader in the French electronics and home appliances retail market. Innov8 strikes Louis Pion smartwatch supply deal

Connected devices distributor Innov8 has struck a deal to supply smartwatches to 140 Louis Pion stores in France. The deal marks another step forward in the blending of technology and fashion channels, as wearables make their mark in mainstream markets. Innov8 will also educate Louis Pion staff on how best to sell smartwatches and explain functionality to consumers. Microsoft boosts online channel reach in Brazil

Vendor giant Microsoft has boosted its online channel reach in Brazil, announcing a tie-up with e-commerce group Cnova, which operates multiple websites including Ponto Frio, Casas Bahia and Extra. The website will host dedicated Microsoft store sections featuring a wide range of the vendor’s portfolio including Xbox, smartphones, tablets, games and accessories. Read full story

Ctroniq and Al Sadhan team up for gold promotion

Mobile device vendor Ctroniq has teamed up with Saudi Arabian hypermarket chain Al Sadhan for a five week consumer promotion in the Kingdom. The promotion, which runs until October 5th 2015, will give consumers the chance to win gold each week when they purchase a Ctroniq product. Al Sadhan is also giving away SAR50,000 (US$13,300) worth of gifts each week to consumers during the promotion period. Al Sadhan operates 12 hypermarkets across Riyadh. Read full story

Dick Smith reports full year figures

Retailer Dick Smith, which operates in Australia and New Zealand, posted sales for the year ending 28th June 2015 of AUD1.32 billion (US$920m) – up 7.5% year-on-year. After-tax profits before restructuring costs climbed 3.1% year-on-year to hit AUD43.4m (US$30.1m), representing a profit margin of 3.29%. Nick Abboud, Dick Smith managing director and CEO, said: “We are pleased to have delivered another solid underlying profit performance in this our second year as a listed company.” Read full story

Erajaya announces joint ventures in Singapore and Malaysia

Indonesia-based distributor and retailer Erajaya Group has announced joint ventures in both Singapore and Malaysia. Erajaya has formed a joint venture with Alphabright to set up Era International Network in Singapore. The company has also teamed up with Malaysian citizen Li Chau Ging to form Era International Network in Malaysia. The moves form part of Erajaya’s plan to expand its distribution and retail footprint in both countries. Read full story
