Majid Al Futtaim opens first Carrefour in Nairobi

Majid Al Futtaim has opened the first Carrefour hypermarket in Nairobi, Kenya. The French retail franchisees’ entry into the Kenyan market marks a significant milestone in the Company’s massive expansion plans into the African continent. The new hypermarket is located in the newly opened Hub shopping mall in the Karen suburb of Nairobi and offers more than 30,000 items including home appliances and electronics. The hypermarket spans 5000 square metres of shopping space. Read full story

Finlux TV brand enters Kenya with Jumia

TV brand Finlux has entered the Kenyan market through a tie-up with online marketplace and e-tailer Jumia. The Finlux TV brand is part of Vestel – the third largest TV manufacturer in the world and largest in Europe, according to the company. Finlux TVs are being sold on Jumia’s Kenya site with the products quality checked, stocked and shipped by Jumia. Read full story

Periscope identifies retailers’ omnichannel woes

Periscope, a McKinsey Solution focusing on price, promotion, and assortment optimisation, has today announced the findings of its latest retailer research. Only 21% of retailers say they are more confident than a year ago on delivering omnichannel experiences, and 45% say progress is not happening fast enough, according to the research. Read full story
