Home audio category worth US$11 billion in 2016

XYZprinting tops 2016 consumer 3D printer shipments

Worldwide shipments of 3D printers rose 25% year-on-year in the first three quarters of 2016 to hit 217,000 units, according to IT market research company CONTEXT. In total, 96% of units shipped were personal and desktop 3D printers, carrying an average price of just under US$1,000. This represents a 27% year-on-year growth for personal and desktop 3D printers. Taiwan’s XYZprinting remained the global leader in personal and desktop 3D printers, seeing its share grow to 22% for the first three quarters of 2016. Read full story

Business PC demand rises in Western Europe

The latest data from research firm CONTEXT has revealed that 5.28 million PC units were sold through the Western European distribution channel in the third quarter of 2016 - up 0.8% year-on-year. Notebooks accounted for 3.93 million units, desktops 1.27 million units, with the remainder made up of PC workstations. CONTEXT revealed that sales of business PCs and detachables were on the rise while consumer demand slumped. Read full story

Smartphone VR headset shipments to soar

A new Juniper Research study claims that there will be nearly 60 million smartphone VR headsets shipped globally per annum by 2021, more than triple the expected 16.8 million units forecast for calendar 2016. However, the lower price of these devices means they will only account for 7% of hardware revenue. Read full story
