Panasonic expands rugged notebook market share in Europe

Panasonic has cemented its position as Europe’s leading rugged mobile computing manufacturer in the latest market analysis from VDC Research. With its Panasonic Toughbook range, the company extended its market-leading share of the European rugged notebook market with a 67% revenue share of sales in 2016. The Panasonic Toughpad tablet range continued to lead the rugged tablet market with a 56% revenue share of sales and the company’s expansion into the rugged handheld market accelerated with year-on-year growth of 176%. DISTREE Russia announces workshop programme including sessions from Microsoft and GfK

DISTREE Russia has confirmed the line-up of workshops and small group sessions at this year’s technology channel event. The sessions form part of an extensive conference programme that runs alongside the main exhibition and pre-scheduled meetings between tech suppliers and channel buyers that take place at the event. Russian notebook market picks up in 2017

Recent figures from market analysts ITResearch indicated a sharp increase for notebook sales in Russia in the first quarter of 2017 - up 16.9% year-on-year. The research data claimed that close to 661,000 notebooks were sold in Russia in the first quarter of 2017 with a value of RUB26.1 billion (US$459m). This meant that the average sales price (ASP) for a notebook in Russia in the first quarter of 2017 stood at US$695. Read full story

Russian market exceeds US$5.64 billion in first quarter

Research house GfK’s most recent TEMAX analysis of the ICT, telecoms and consumer electronics market in Russia indicates that the total market value hit US$5.64 billion in the first quarter of 2017. Sales in the telecoms segment climbed 9.7% year-on-year in local currency terms to hit US$1.7 billion. Read full story

Cloud services redefine distributor role in Europe

Distributors are changing rapidly and - especially in Europe - are finding a new role as a provider of cloud services, e-commerce, specialist logistics and support for the channel during its transition to new revenue models. Online marketplaces drive Russian e-commerce growth

According to AKIT, the association of Russian e-commerce companies, online sales in Russia grew 15% year-on-year in calendar 2016 to hit RUB850 billion (US$14.9 billion). The research firm claims that online still only accounts for 4% of domestic retail in Russia. In comparison, online accounts for 12% of the UK market. AKIT believes that the e-commerce market in Russia has huge potential for further growth, which could be driven by the entry of large international players. Read full story
