Smart toy revenues to hit US$18 billion in 2023

A new report from Juniper Research claims that smart yoys will represent an US$18 billion hardware and software market by 2023, up from an estimated $6 billion in 2018. This increase will primarily be driven by the growing popularity of smartphone‑connected toys and related in-app purchases, which are projected to grow by 69% annually over the next five years. Jays Group acquires Krusell

Audio and accessories brand Jays Group is buying Krusell for an initial purchase price of US$51.4m with an earnout that will pay half of EBITDA based on performance in 2018 and 2019. Jays Group will, after the integration of the Krusell group of companies, have annual sales in excess of US$170m. The initial purchase price consists of US$13.6m cash, US$4.5m as a promissory note and US$33.3m as a share issue to the sellers. The share price will be decided at the end of May and the sellers will be subject to a three-year lock-up period. Read full story

Arrow Electronics adds Tenable rights across EMEA

Arrow Electronics has announced an EMEA distribution agreement with Tenable to distribute the company’s cybersecurity products. In 2017, Tenable launched Tenable.io, the first cyber exposure platform to provide visibility into any asset on any computing platform, including public cloud environments, and purpose-built applications for vulnerability management, container security and web application scanning. Hume to become CEO at Tech Data

Distribution giant Tech Data has announced that Rich Hume, executive VP and COO will become CEO effective June 6, 2018 and has been nominated to join the company’s board of directors. Hume will succeed Bob Dutkowsky, who will transition to the role of executive chairman of the board. Hume joined Tech Data in 2016 as executive VP and COO. Since then, he has played a pivotal role in the creation of the company’s long-term strategy. Read full story

Krusell reveals first quarter top seller list

Accessories brand Krusell has released its top seller list for the first quarter of 2018. The list of devices is based on the number of pieces of custom made mobile and smartphone cases ordered from Krusell during the first quarter of 2018. The list reflects the sales of phones on six continents and in more than 50 countries around the globe. Apple’s iPhone 8 took top spot on Krusell’s first quarter top sellers list, with devices from Samsung, Huawei and Sony also appearing in the rankings. Read full story

MyKronoz crowdfunds US$8m for ZeTime in less than a year

Innovative smartwatch brand MyKronoz has announced record-breaking crowdfunding results for ZeTime, its hybrid smartwatch. After a 35-day Kickstarter campaign launched in March 2017, ZeTime has since pursued its crowdfunding journey on a variety of international and local platforms including Indiegogo, Makuaké in Japan, Zec Zec in Taïwan, Wadiz in Korea and on the leading chinese e-commerce website JD.com. D-Link has unveiled the DSP-W115 Smart Plug, along with the new mydlink app, which enables home automation functions through integration with popular smart home platforms Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
