Slack Friday in notebook space claims CONTEXT

Volume sales of consumer technology on Black Friday are unlikely to increase from the same period in 2017 in most major European countries, despite intense promotional activity from retailers, according to CONTEXT, the IT market intelligence company. The firm based its predictions on analysis of distribution volumes into retailers and e-tailers, using its CONTEXT Saleswatch data to compare sales across a crucial six-week period at the start of the fourth quarter compared to a year ago. The notebook category was chosen as an indicator of what might happen in the wider consumer tech space. Read full story

Exertis appoints head of transformation

Tech Data adds Cloudera in Europe

Distributor Tech Data has announced a pan-European agreement with Cloudera, the modern platform for machine learning and analytics optimised for the cloud. Under the new distribution deal, Tech Data’s customers can access Cloudera’s full portfolio of products and solutions. Craig Smith, VP IoT and Analytics Europe, at Tech Data, said: “Data is at the heart of all machine learning and analytics applications. Before the data can be processed by the applications, you first need to give it a scalable home, where it can be sorted, structured and categorised. Exertis, a distributor of technology products for the B2B, mobile and retail markets has announced its distribution of under counter fridges, chest freezers, and wine and beverage coolers from Danby, a leading refrigeration and speciality home-comfort appliance company in North America. ALSO signs distribution deal with Materialise

ALSO has signed a distribution agreement with Materialise, a leading provider of software for 3D printing. The agreement to market Materialise’s HP Build Processor and Materialise Magics software will cover Europe, excluding the UK and the Republic of Ireland. Beyond providing pre- and post-sales technical support, ALSO will offer a suite of services to VARs, helping to recruit, train, and authorise them to market these software packages to end customers. Nuvias adds pan-European rights for FireEye

Nuvias, the fast-growing VAD, has signed a pan-European distribution agreement with FireEye, the intelligence-led security company. Nuvias will aim to play a key role in driving further adoption of the FireEye product portfolio. The agreement is initially focused on markets in the UK and Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France and the Netherlands. It will eventually cover the whole of Europe. ALSO Group creates new roles

Distributor giant ALSO is driving forward its transformation with the creation of two new functions that will both report directly to group management. Reiner Schwitzki, who has been spokesman of the management board of ALSO Germany for the last seven years, will be appointed chief process officer (CPO) with immediate effect. At the same time, Hermann Scharl, who has been head of logistics at ALSO Germany for the last 15 years, will become chief logistics officer (CLO). Read full story
