Context reports PC sales slump in UK

Research house Context reckons that overall first quarter 2011 PC sales in the UK have been hit by a slump in consumer demand. Context claims that UK PC unit sales were down 7.7% year-on-year, compared to an overall European decline of just 2.9%. Read full story

Arrow ECS earns Big Blue accolades

VAD outfit Arrow ECS has picked up praise from IBM for its operations in EMEA. Arrow ECS was recognised for best overall performance in 2010 for IBM software in the UK and France. Arrow ECS also received IBM centre of technical excellence awards for the IBM AIX brand in Germany and in the business partner skills category in the UK. Read full story

Zycko names new Benelux boss

VAD outfit Zycko has appointed Edwin Hagenouw as the new managing director of its Benelux operation. Hagenouw joins Zycko from HP where he was director of the vendor’s networking division in the Netherlands. In his new position at Zycko Hagenouw will look to grow the VAD’s business across the Benelux region. Read full story

Distribution giant Ingram Micro EMEA has added BlackBerry’s mobile voice system (MVS) to its growing portfolio of mobile products. BlackBerry MVS is designed to unify fixed and mobile voice communications to provide one business phone number, one caller ID, one voice mailbox, and office phone features through BlackBerry smartphones. Panasonic boosts rugged PC share

Panasonic Toughbooks accounted for 65.3% of the European rugged and durable notebook market in 2010 – up slightly from 62.6% in 2009 – according to data from research house VDC. The research also showed that Panasonic Toughbook’s topped the table for customer satisfaction. Read full story

Ingram Micro gets TAPA certificate

Ingram Micro EMEA has been awarded an ‘A’ certificate from the Transported Asset Protection Association (TAPA) for its distribution centre in Tilburg, the Netherlands. Ingram Micro claims that the certificate is proof of the high security standards applied in the handling and shipping of all products by Ingram Micro and Ingram Micro Logistics in the Dutch distribution centre. Meru Networks signs Azlan agreement

Wireless networking outfit Meru has announced a European agreement with Azlan, the VAD arm of distribution giant Tech Data. Through this deal, Azlan expands its IT portfolio with Meru’s virtualised wireless LAN (WLAN) solutions to deliver value-added solutions to its base of resellers. Read full story

VAD outfit Azlan, which is part of Tech Data, has been named worldwide distribution services innovation partner 2011 by Cisco. The new status is in recognition of Azlan’s investments and success it has achieved with its Felixonline quoting, ordering and contract renewals system for Cisco smartnet services. Read full story

Western European PC sales drop

The latest data from research house Context has shown a sharp year-on-year drop in PC sales in February 2011. Unit sales were down 5.8% as consumers shied away from netbooks and notebooks, according to Context. Netbook unit sales were down 24.4% while traditional notebook PC sales slumped 18.4%. The data released by Context did not state how much of this decline was due to the impact of tablet sales – most notably iPads – cannibalising the notebook and netbook segments. Read full story
