ATS launches SolutionsPath in UK

VAD outfit Avnet Technology Solutions (ATS) has launched its SolutionsPath methodology in the UK. The new programme features dedicated technology teams to help Avnet’s business partners target specialised, high-growth markets. ATS has launched four technology practices that utilise the SolutionsPath methodology: storage and data management; data centre optimisation and virtualisation; unified communications, collaboration and mobility, and cloud computing. Tech Data snaps up Autodesk VAD assets

Distribution giant Tech Data has struck a deal to acquire certain assets relating to the VAD business of Man and Machine in Europe. Man and Machine operates as a VAD in the design software market in Germany, the UK, France, Italy, Switzerland, the Benelux, Poland and Romania. The deal, which is expected to close by the end of October, will strengthen the position of TDDatech, Tech Data’s design software division. Read full story

All-in-one laser printer sales climb

Market research company Context reckons that printer sales across EMEA dropped 4.4% year-on-year during the second quarter of 2011. Despite the overall drop, unit sales of all-in-one (AIO) laser printers bucked the trend, climbing 20% year-on-year as buyers moved away from single-function machines and consumers across Western Europe stopped buying AIO inkjet printers according to Context. Oktabit adds Samsung rights

Greek distributor Oktabit has expanded its product portfolio, striking a deal with Samsung Electronics. Under the terms of the agreement, Oktabit will distribute Samsung’s IT products within Greece. The deal covers a range of products including notebooks, netbooks, monitors and printers. Read full story

Context offers post-HP PC analysis

Research house Context has offered some insight into what HP’s decision to head for the exit door in the PC and tablet space really means for the European distribution channel. Context reckons that the channel is well positioned to cope with the disappearance of HP revenues, highlighting the fact that the vendor’s share of Europe PC distribution sales has fallen from 44% at the beginning of 2008 to 31% by the end of 2010. Dell has announced Systemax Europe Technology as the first partner in EMEA to achieve its networking and security certification. HP announces European TouchPad timeline

Vendor giant HP has outlined launch dates for its first webOS tablet device in Europe. The HP TouchPad will be available in the US from July 1st with the UK, Ireland, France and Germany following a few days later, according to the vendor. Availability will start later in the year in both Italy and Spain. Read full story
