Avanquest provides solutions aimed at automating business processes and improving information and communication management. Archive and Avanquest plan to combine the skills of both companies to deliver cost effective solutions to clients.

Sony has named Microwarehouse as the sole distributor of its Vaio business lines in the Irish market. Under the terms of the deal, Microwarehouse will act as a distribution partner for the vendor’s P, TT, Z, SR and BZ Vaio product lines.

Acronis adds Bell for SMB push
Backup and recovery software vendor Acronis has added VAD Bell Micro to its UK channel ranks. Under the terms of the agreement, Bell Micro will push Acronis’ recently launched portfolio of disaster recovery products. Acronis reckons that bringing Bell on board will allow it to broaden channel reach in its core SMB market.

High-tech stock control at EET Nordic
Denmark-based European distributor EET Nordic has taken a high-tech approach to stock control in its logistics centre in Ballerup. EET Nordic, which has annual sales of approximately US$160m, has installed more than 50 Axis network cameras to monitor its warehouse and increase overall efficiency in the logistics process. As a distributor of Axis kit, EET Nordic should have got a good price for the cameras.

Best Buy reports second quarter figures
Retail behemoth Best Buy has reported global sales for the second quarter ending August 2009 of US$11.02 billion – up 12% year-on-year – with profits hitting US$158m. International sales were up 65% to US$2.7 billion thanks to the inclusion of revenue from Best Buy Europe.

ATS picks up UK rights for Falconstor
VAD outfit Avnet Technology Solutions (ATS) has struck a UK distribution deal for Falconstor’s data protection software solutions. Avnet will immediately distribute the full range of Falconstor solutions in the UK. Avnet already has a distribution deal with Falconstor in the Benelux with more countries already in the pipeline for future distribution deals.

Verbatim owner snaps up Freecom
Mitsubishi Kagaku Media (MKM) has snapped up European data storage products vendors Freecom in a stock-funded deal. MKM already owns the external storage brand Verbatim. The deal includes all of Freecom’s assets, patents, trademarks, technology, engineering, sales and marketing expertise. The purchase price was not disclosed.

A deal with the Devil for collapsed COS
German distribution outfit Devil has agreed a deal to rescue COS Distribution from insolvency. Under the terms of the deal, COS will continue to operate as an independent company under the ownership of Devil with job losses minimised as a result. The deal was finally agreed after lengthy negotiations between Devil and Ralf Diehl, the liquidator appointed by COS.
