ATS signs Sourcefire in UK

VAD outfit Avnet Technology Solutions (ATS) has struck a UK distribution deal with intelligent cybersecurity solutions vendor Sourcefire. Under the terms of the agreement, ATS will provide the Sourcefire 3D system, an intelligent security infrastructure for information security management, to VAR partners in the UK. Read full story

Tech Data picks up Hitachi GST rights in Europe

Tech Data has been awarded European distribution rights for Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (GST) full range of products. The distribution giant reckons that the deal adds further strength and depth to its portfolio of storage products. Hitachi GST’s product range addresses a broad range of markets, from notebook and consumer PCs to enterprise data centres. Read full story

Tech Data publishes latest results

NASDAQ-quoted Tech Data has revealed its fourth quarter numbers. Global sales for the quarter ending January 31st 2010 climbed 10% year-on-year to hit US$6.3 billion. Operating margin fell year-on-year from 1.73% to 1.5%, resulting in operating profits of US$94.2m for fourth quarter 2009. Global after-tax profits were up 23% at US$70m. Read full story

Zycko signs FalconStor deal

European VAD outfit Zycko has struck a distribution deal with data protection solutions supplier Falconstor. Under the terms of the agreement, Zycko will offer a range of data protection solutions featuring Falconstor software alongside Hitachi Data Systems’ (HDS) storage subsystems. Zycko is already a European distributor for HDS. The new solutions will be available immediately for Zycko’s channel customer base in the UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain. Read full story

A-Server launches certified reseller programme

A-Server, a provider of managed services for IT resellers, has launched a new certified partner reseller programme. The new programme, which is available to all 350 registered A-Server resellers in Europe, claims to offer better margins, training courses, cash back and MDF benefits to partners reselling A-Server’s SMB-focused business continuity services. The new scheme is based on a three-tier certification programme. Read full story

20:20 Mobile bags Bayalink distribution deal

European smartphone and accessories distributor 20:20 Mobile has struck a deal to push Bayalink Liberty USB devices to its channel customer base. Bayalink’s USB device is a virtualisation tool that delivers Blackberry functionality to the desktop. Also drops GNT name

European distribution outfit Also has revealed its annual results for 2009. The company - comprising Also Germany, Also Switzerland and GNT’s operations in Finland, Norway, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania – saw sales fall 9% year-on-year to US$4.07 billion with net profits of US$13.9m. During the year Also trimmed its workforce by 11% to finish 2009 with 1,473 employees. Read full story

Comtek flies HP flag

Pan-European IT repair services outfit Comtek is not holding back in expressing its support for HP as the vendor giant eyes the networking market. Comtek reckons that HP can capitalise on anti-Cisco sentiment to form new partnerships and take on networking giant Cisco. With HP’s recent acquisition of 3Com, Cisco has understandably taken a close look at its relationship with HP and taken away the vendor’s authorised dealer status. Read full story
