Tech Data snaps up Triade

Distribution giant Tech Data is buying Benelux and Denmark-based consumer electronics and mobility channel focused Triade Holding. Tech Data reckons that the deal strengthens its IT and mobility offerings and provides a platform for its expansion into Europe’s consumer electronics market. In a related deal, Brightstar Europe – a joint venture between Tech Data and Brightstar – is acquiring Triade Mobile Communication Compnay (MCC), a mobility specialist in the Netherlands and Belgium. Fujitsu Frontech signs Stordis for XG series

Fujitsu Frontech North America has signed Stordis as its first EMEA distributor for the Fujitsu XG series of Ethernet switches. Fujitsu Frontech North America supplies a range of IT technologies, digital media solutions, retail solutions and biometric security solutions. The two companies reckon that the deal cements Stordis’ reputation as a European distributor of networking and storage products. Read full story

Distribution recovery continues

The Global Technology Distribution Council (GTDC) reckons that the IT industry recovery is continuing to gain strength, driven by stronger US sales and stabilising conditions in Europe. GTDC claims that second quarter sales in Europe were up 15% year-on-year. Read full story

ATS signs pan-European Clickfree deal

Avnet Technology Solutions (ATS) has struck a pan-European distribution deal with Clickfree. Under the terms of the agreement, ATS will push Clickfree’s storage back-up products – including both hard drive-based and DVD-based solutions – to its channel customer base. Read full story

Also pumps up first half profits

European distribution outfit Also has announced first half 2010 sales up 3% year-on-year at US$1.89 billion. After-tax profits climbed 29% to US$10.5m. Improved performance in Northern and Eastern Europe helped boost first half result. Also’s profit margin for the first six months hit 0.56%. Read full story

ATS adds ShoreTel rights in Benelux

VAD outfit Avnet Technology Solutions (ATS) has expanded its distribution deal with unified communications systems supplier ShoreTel to include the Benelux region. ATS will now offer ShoreTel’s portfolio of unified communication solutions to VARs in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. The new deal builds on an existing agreement covering the UK and other parts of Europe. Read full story

Westcon seals US$200m European credit facility

Westcon Group has replaced its syndicated vendor-based inventory financing facilities in Europe with a new US$200m agreement, funded by HSBC Invoice Finance. The new four-year invoice financing facility consolidates and replaces existing flooring agreements within Westcon Europe on more favourable terms. Read full story

BlueCat opens European headquarters

BlueCat Networks has opened its new European headquarters in Amsterdam. BlueCat, which offers IP address management (IPAM), DNS and DHCP platforms in both physical and virtual appliances, has also announced the appointment of Paul Couturier as its new VP of sales for Europe. Couturier previously held senior roles at TippingPoint, HP and 3Com. Read full story

Arrow ECS adds Austrian NetApp rights

VAD outfit Arrow ECS has extended its distribution agreement with NetApp to cover Austria. Arrow ECS will now sell the complete range of storage and data management solutions from NetApp in the country. Arrow ECS Internet Security has hired storage distribution veteran Gerhard Ulrichshofer to manage its NetApp business. Ulrichshofer and his team will work collaboratively with NetApp to deliver the full suite of storage solutions to resellers. Read full story

‘Wizzy’ gets busy at Synaxon

Dealer group Synaxon has appointed Andrew ‘Wizzy’ Wygladala as UK vendor channel manager. In his new role, Wygladala will try and ensure that vendors receive value and tangible return on investment (ROI) from partnerships with Synaxon. He will work with vendors on marketing campaigns designed to drive product and brand awareness and generate leads. Read full story
