Qivicon adds Huawei and Netatmo

Smart home platform Qivicon has added two new product partners to its ecosystem: Huawei and Netatmo. Huawei, which offers networking solutions and devices such as smartphones, will focus on creating smart home compatible terminal devices and control elements. Netatmo’s range includes smart weather stations, which will integrate with the Qivicon platform. Qivicon was set up by telco giant Deutsche Telekom. Read full story

From connected devices to smart home solutions

Persuading European consumers to invest in smart home solutions has been a tough challenge for the industry to date, but a new breed of connected devices and point solutions could help trigger a mass market breakthrough. Speaking at a recent connected home conference, Greg Roberts, VP marketing at connected home platform provider Icontrol Networks, said: “We are now seeing compelling connected devices in the market – point solutions. These may not connect with other devices but it is a chance for customers to get their feet wet in terms of smart home technologies.” Read full story

Ingram Micro makes binding offer for Anovo

Distribution giant Ingram Micro is looking for a bigger slice of the pie in device lifecycle services. Ingram Micro has made a binding offer to buy France-based Anovo, a provider of reverse logistics and repair services for products such as smartphones and set-top boxes across Europe and Latin America. Ingram Micro claims that upon completion the deal will strengthen its position as a global provider of device lifecycle services, while also boosting its relationships with top telecom operators and OEMs. Read full story

Tech Data snaps up HTC RE rights in Europe

Tech Data Europe has been appointed as a European distributor for the new HTC RE camera. Tech Data Europe will supply major national and independent retailers and mobile network operators across Europe with HTC’s newest innovation in photography, which aims to allow users to step out from behind the viewfinder and capture high definition video and photos without anything getting in their way. Smart home demand hampered by poor consumer marketing

European adoption of smart technologies and connected home devices remains hampered by poor consumer marketing, resulting in weak demand. The problem is compounded by a failure to articulate clear and compelling value propositions, and a struggle to communicate usage scenarios that truly appeal to the mass market. Syscap pledges channel financing boost

UK-based IT finance provider Syscap has ring-fenced £50m (US$78.3m) for the IT channel in 2015 and is launching a new partner programme. The announcement forms part of a wider strategy to refocus the company as the primary source of channel finance. Syscap estimates that it currently deals with less than 10% of the reseller community in the UK that meets its new eligibility criteria. Read full story

Arrayent opens European headquarters

Internet of Things (IoT) platform provider Arrayent has opened a European office in London. This new office will serve as the European headquarters and support all business functions from sales, marketing, customer support and applications engineering. Arrayent claims that customers will receive more timely and localised pre and post-sales support. Arrayent’s product roadmaps will be strengthened by closer collaboration with its European customers. Darty upbeat on 4D benefits

European retailer Darty claims that it is continuing to see the benefits of its 4Ds plan to drive trading, digitalise Darty, develop the brand and deliver cost savings. Darty’s group sales for the quarter ending July 31st 2014 were up 5.9% year-on-year, according to an interim management statement based on unaudited accounts. Read full story
