Ironkey signs Starlink for MENA

Secure flash drive vendor Ironkey has appointed Starlink as a VAD partner for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Starlink will push Ironkey’s complete range of secure encrypted portable storage devices to its existing customer base, which includes 50 banks, 10 telecoms companies and more than 100 data centres in the region. Dell hands Moufarrej new role

Hardware giant Dell has appointed Nazih Moufarrej as UAE sales manager. Based in Dubai, Moufarrej has been tasked with growing Dell’s commercial business. Moufarrej plans to work closely with the channel community to deliver solutions to large enterprise and public sector customers. Read full story

Lexmark trains partners in Kuwait

Printing player Lexmark has concluded a two-day training session with resellers and retailers in Kuwait. The Lexmark training programme, which was designed to help partners sell and integrate the vendor’s printing solutions, was attended by 42 channel executives. 34 delegates participated in sales and services training with the remaining eight taking part in technical training sessions. Pirated Xbox games seized in UAE

Microsoft Gulf has announced the seizure of 29,000 pirated Xbox games during a coordinated series of raids across the UAE. In total, 21 separate raids were carried out in reseller stores in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah. The raids are designed to reduce the spread of pirated Xbox 360 games and support the region’s legitimate resellers. Read full story

‘MERA: 2010 Awards’ – HALL OF FAME

The Middle East Retail Academy (MERA) has officially launched its Hall of Fame. The first two members of the Hall of Fame were announced at the recent ‘MERA: 2010 Awards’ and Gala Dinner, which was held in association with Digital Consumer Channel (DCC) Middle East & Africa (MEA). Carrefour’s NR Ganeshan and HP’s Wael El Chami were the first two individuals inducted into the exclusive MERA Hall of Fame, in recognition of their outstanding contribution to the development of the region’s retail channel. Canon charms channel at DCC MEA

LG pushes 3D in Lebanon

Consumer electronics vendor LG has teamed up with in-country distribution partner Sealco, to set up three LED 3D TV experience zones in Lebanon. The two companies are also in the middle of a national road show running until June 15th to introduce and promote LG’s LX9500 full LED 3D LCD TV. The promotion effort also includes live radio coverage of events to build interest in LG’s latest products. Read full story

‘MERA: 2010 Awards’ – INDIVIDUAL WINNERS

There were ten individual accolades handed out at last week’s ‘Middle East Retail Academy (MERA): 2010 Awards’. Belkin boosts Egyptian reach

Accessories and networking vendor Belkin has signed up International Business Systems (IBS) as an authorised distribution partner in Egypt. IBS plans to work closely with Belkin to widen the vendor’s reach through consumer, SMB and enterprise channels. Belkin reckons that the deal with IBS will allow it to significantly improve its national presence and visibility in Egypt. Read full story
