Avaya names emerging markets channel boss

Avaya has named Tarek Hassaniyeh as its new regional channel leader for emerging markets. Hassaniyeh takes over from Roger El Tawil, the former director of channel and marketing for Avaya in the Middle East. El Tawil now holds the position of managing director for Avaya in the Gulf and Pakistan. Read full story

Al-Falak Distribution has picked up the Microsoft award for best hardware distributor in EMEA for the quarter ending March 2010. Saudi Arabian distribution outfit Al-Falak impressed on a number of criteria including excellence in marketing execution, exceeding overall sales goals, year-over-year growth as well as proactive partnership and communications. Codemasters names GCC partners

Games vendor Codemasters has named Axo Entertainment and Modern Electronics as distribution partners for the GCC region. The two companies will distribute Codemasters’ portfolio of games throughout the GCC, including the F1 2010 racing game that will launch in September 2010. Read full story

Aptec scores hat-trick with Symantec

Techserve bags Bose services gig

UAE after-sales service provider outfit Techserve has been named as a UAE services partner for audio manufacturer Bose. The deal paves the way for Techserve to provide installation and repair services for Bose products sold in the UAE. Techserve, which is part of the Al-Futtaim Group, also holds service partnerships with Nokia, Sony Vaio, Panasonic, Toshiba and Sanyo plus several other vendors. Read full story

Jacky’s offers World Cup warranty

UAE retailer Jacky’s Electronics has introduced a special warranty offer for all customers purchasing TVs that are 32” or larger. Jacky’s is offering a free four year ‘World Cup to World Cup’ warranty to tie in with the FIFA World Cup, which kicks off in South Africa later this month. The warranty scheme is one of several initiatives from Jacky’s designed to boost sales during the upcoming Dubai Summer Surprises period. Read full story

US$27m financing for ’CompuMe & i2’

Further details of the management buyout of the UAE retail operations of CompuMe and i2 have now emerged. The deal brokered by Arab Emirates Investment Bank (AEIB) has seen Dikran Tchablakian become the owner and CEO of all i2 and CompuMe operations in the UAE. The combined UAE entity will be known as ‘CompuMe & i2’. The AEIB financing package totals Dhs100m (US$27.2m), which is made up of finance facilities, bank guarantees and a loan that is repayable within the next three years. Read full story

Ironkey signs Starlink for MENA

Secure flash drive vendor Ironkey has appointed Starlink as a VAD partner for the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Starlink will push Ironkey’s complete range of secure encrypted portable storage devices to its existing customer base, which includes 50 banks, 10 telecoms companies and more than 100 data centres in the region. Dell hands Moufarrej new role

Hardware giant Dell has appointed Nazih Moufarrej as UAE sales manager. Based in Dubai, Moufarrej has been tasked with growing Dell’s commercial business.
