Logicom lands APC rights in Middle East

Logicom’s Middle East operation has landed APC distribution rights in five countries. The Dubai-based distributor claims that its latest vendor scalp is part of an ongoing portfolio expansion drive designed to build a comprehensive portfolio of products and services. Logicom will hold the rights to sell APC products in Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Yemen. Read full story

New boss named at Fujitsu Middle East

Farid Al Sabbagh has been named as the new managing director of Fujitsu Technology Solutions Middle East. Al Sabbagh takes the regional reins from Stephane Rejasse. In his new role Al Sabbagh will focus on driving Fujitsu’s regional growth and will also look to streamline the vendor’s channel network. Rejasse moves to a new role focused on growing Fujitsu’s business in Africa with a strong focus on channel development. Read full story

Lenovo confirms Asbis deal in Saudi

Hardware vendor Lenovo has finally confirmed the appointment of Asbis as a distribution partner in Saudi Arabia. Asbis had already publicised the deal in its second half results published in early August 2009. Lenovo has also boosted its Saudi team, appointing Ahmed Abdelaal as country sales manager. Opennet strengthens Saudi team

Opennet has appointed Ala’a Mousa Saadeh as its territory manager for Saudi Arabia. In his new role, Saadeh will look to reorganise and expand the VAD’s channel network in the Kingdom. Opennet is an authorised distributor for both Red Hat and Zimbra in the Middle East and North Africa. Saadeh hopes to continue to grow Opennet’s business in the Kingdom, focusing on Riyadh and the Eastern province. Read full story

Middle East retail confidence climbs

ICT and CE retailers operating in the Middle East are showing an increased confidence in their business prospects for the next three months. The newfound optimism was detailed in the latest Monthly Monitor report from the Middle East Retail Academy (MERA). The overall confidence index for both retailers and vendors (scored out of 10) climbed to 6.25, up from just 5.54 a month earlier. Read full story

Autodesk names Omnix as Saudi VAD

Design software vendor Autodesk has appointed Omnix International as a VAD partner in Saudi Arabia. The channel expansion forms part of Autodesk’s aims to boost its market share in the Kingdom. Omnix will focus on distributing, implementation and promotion of design solutions, including AutoCAD, as well as manufacturing solutions. Read full story

R&M completes Middle East partner training

Swiss structured cabling outfit R&M has completed a series of training workshops for its channel partners in the Middle East. The three day workshops, which took place in the UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt and Jordan, were conducted by R&M MEA’s new technical director, Andrew Sedman. Read full story

Opennet bags Zimbra rights

Red Hat distributor Opennet has added Zimbra to its solutions portfolio. Red Hat has been appointed by Zimbra as a distributor for the Middle East region. Zimbra, which is part of Yahoo, offers open source server software for e-mail and collaboration, targeted at a wide range of business users from SMEs to large enterprises. Read full story

LG expands netbook range in Jordan and Iraq

LG has launched its latest X120 and X130 netbooks in Jordan and Iraq. In Jordan, the IT and consumer electronics vendor is working with retail partners Smart Buy, Carrefour and PC Jordan to make the new netbook models available. LG works with IT shops in all major cities in Iraq as its primary in-country retail route-to-market. Read full story

Axiom targets training boost

Middle East mobile phone retailer Axiom Telecom has launched a staff development programme. The company hopes that the new programme will further improve and enhance customers’ in-store experience. Axiom has also indicated that it plans to increase the number of its retail outlets in UAE, Saudi Arabia, and India throughout 2009. Read full story
