Habl handed Zimbra VAR gig

Dubai-based open source IT solutions specialist Habl Consultancy has been appointed as a Middle East VAR for Zimbra. Habl, which is based in Dubai Silicon Oasis, will resell Zimbra’s messaging and collaboration software. Zimbra is distributed in the Middle East through Opennet MEA. Read full story

Middle East IT services outfit CCS Jordan has joined forces with repairs specialist LetMeRepair MEA to create a new ICT services company. IDC points to sluggish printer market in Egypt

The numbercrunchers at IDC reckon that Egypt’s hardcopy peripherals market is suffering during the current economic conditions. IDC reckons that shipments of hardcopy peripherals – including printers, MFPs and single function copiers – fell 37.2% year-on-year to 62,813 units in the second quarter of 2009. The value of shipments slumped 44.9% to US$23.18m. Read full story

TDME takes Cisco event to Bahrain

Plug-Ins plans Windows 7 promotion

UAE retailer Plug-Ins is planning a range of promotions around the global launch of Microsoft’s Windows 7 operating system. Plug-Ins, which is part of the Al-Futtaim group, will launch its promotion – called ‘Power of 10’ – during GITEX Computer Shopper (GCS) later this month. GCS is a special retail event organised in Dubai alongside IT and consumer electronics trade show GITEX. Read full story

Logicom warns on profits

Cyprus-quoted distribution player Logicom has issued a warning ahead of its results announcement for the first nine months of 2009 with profitability expected to be lower compared to the corresponding period of 2008’. Logicom posted after-tax profits of US$7.4m on sales of US$434.67m for the first nine months of 2008 – a margin of 1.7%. Read full story

Kobian eyes MEA expansion

UAE-based PC, components and peripherals vendor Kobian Group has unveiled plans for further expansion in the Middle East and Africa region. Kobian Group, which produces PCs and notebooks and components under the Mercury brand, forecasts sales of US$350m in 2010 – up from US$115m in 2006. Read full story
