DISTREE announces 2016 calendar of events

DISTREE Events has officially announced its 2016 event calendar, with six consumer technology channel events planned around the world. Smart home revenues to hit US$100 billion in 2020

As big numbers go, it is certainly one guaranteed to get your attention. The numbercrunchers at Juniper Research reckon that global consumer spending on smart home services including entertainment, health, energy and home automation, will reach US$100 billion per annum by 2020. WD to snap up SanDisk for US$19 billion

Storage giant Western Digital (WD) will splash out US$19 billion in cash and stock to snap up flash memory specialist Sandisk. WD claims that the deal is the next step in the transformation of WD into a storage solutions company with global scale, extensive product and technology assets, and deep expertise in non-volatile memory (NVM). Microsoft boosts online channel reach in Brazil

Vendor giant Microsoft has boosted its online channel reach in Brazil, announcing a tie-up with e-commerce group Cnova, which operates multiple websites including Ponto Frio, Casas Bahia and Extra. The website will host dedicated Microsoft store sections featuring a wide range of the vendor’s portfolio including Xbox, smartphones, tablets, games and accessories. Read full story

Android dominates Brazilian smartphone market

The latest research from Kantar WorldPanel ComTech has revealed that Android is the dominant operating system for smartphones in Brazil, accounting for 89% of all devices sold in the three months ending July 2015. Strong demand for smartphones in Brazil has seen a number of new brands enter the market in 2015 and also created an increased appetite for a wide range of mobile accessories. Read full story
