Microsoft unveils Windows 10 launch plans
Vendor giant Microsoft will launch Windows 10 on July 29th with global fan celebrations, joint efforts with thousands of retailers, including all Microsoft store locations, plus a new global advertising campaign. In the Asia Pacific region retailers including Croma in India, plus Bic Camera, Yamada and Yodobashi in Japan, will all introduce programmes to help people easily upgrade.

Papp leaves Hungary for Microsoft APAC role
Vendor giant Microsoft has appointed István Papp as VP for sales, marketing and services in Asia Pacific (APAC). In his new role, Papp will lead regional business operations for Microsoft in APAC, which now spans over 13,500 employees and 100,000 Microsoft partners across 12 subsidiaries. Papp joins Microsoft APAC after four years as the general manager of Microsoft Hungary.

Smart fitness device brand Fitbit has made its official debut in the Indian market, launching a range of products through an exclusive tie-up with e-tailer Amazon’s Indian operation. Fitbit products can be ordered now through Amazon India, which will be the exclusive channel for two months. Fitbit will then add additional retail partners and expand its channel reach.

Nojima boosts stake in Vietnam’s Tran Anh
Japan-based Nojima Electronics has boosted its shareholding in Vietnamese technology and consumer electronics retailer Tran Anh Digital World JSC. Nojima recently snapped up another 3.7 million shares in the retailer from the Aureos Southeast Asia Fund. The deal represented a 21% stake in Tran Anh and boosted Nojima’s overall shareholding to just under 31%.

Microsoft appoints Beaulieu as SMS&P lead for APAC
Vendor giant Microsoft has appointed Valerie Beaulieu as its general manager for small and midmarket solutions and partners (SMS&P) in Asia Pacific (APAC). Beaulieu will be responsible for developing the company’s SMB offerings for APAC. She will also be driving overall channel engagement for the Microsoft partner community, which is key in expanding the company’s reach in the region as more than 95% of Microsoft’s business is done through partners in Asia.

Huawei targets retail channel for smartphone sales in India
Device vendor Huawei will utilise India’s expansive retail channels to boost sales of four smartphone models, which the company is launching in the country. P Sanjeev, sales director devices business at Huawei India, said: "To reach out to our consumers in key markets, the Huawei range will be available through a strong distribution network in offline retail beginning with a 1000 stores rollout in the next 4-8 weeks.”

Wearables gain momentum in Australia
Research house GfK’s most recent analysis of the ICT, telecoms and consumer electronics market in Australia indicates that the total market value hit US$3.7 billion in the first quarter of 2015 – up 9.2% year-on-year. The value of the telecoms segment rocketed 25% year-on-year to US$1.05 billion, driven by strong demand for smartphones and wearables.

Lenovo rejigs Indian management
Vendor giant Lenovo has rejigged its executive line-up in India, appointing Rahul Agarwal as the managing director for its India operations. Agarwal succeeds Amar Babu, who has been promoted to the role of COO at Lenovo, Asia Pacific and Chairman of Lenovo India. In his new role, Agarwal will help drive Lenovo’s diversification beyond PCs into the world of smart connected devices. India plays a key role in this transformation and is an extremely critical market for Lenovo, according to the vendor.

Huawei targets consumer networking market in India
Fast-growing Huawei is launching its new range of broadband networking devices for home and small office home office (SOHO) users in India. The company hopes to grab 40% market share in the broadband networking segment. Allen Wang, president of consumer business group at Huawei India, said: “Currently India is trailing behind other South Asian countries in broadband connections and as a leading ICT player in the market, we aim to support this with our latest offerings.”

Oppo announces exclusive Dick Smith deal in Australia
Mobile phone brand Oppo has announced an exclusive mass retail partnership with Australian technology retail colossus Dick Smith. The deal will see Oppo’s full range of handsets and accessories available for purchase from nearly 400 Dick Smith outlets nationwide from July 14th. The latest OPPO products, the R7 and R7 Plus, will be sold at Dick Smith.
