Avnet picks up HGST rights in India

Distributor Avnet has added HGST storage products to its portfolio in India. HGST, now part of storage giant WD, claims that the deal will extend its reach across India and wider South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) region. Avnet will distribute HGST’s enterprise and mobile drives, and Touro external storage solutions in India and the SAARC region. Read full story

Senheng announces MOLPay collaboration

Malaysian retailer Senheng has announced a strategic collaboration with online payment solution provider MOLPay. Under the terms of the agreement, MOLPay will add a physical payment service to its online merchants’ payment methods. Consumers will be able to purchase online and pay for the transactions in cash at any of Senheng’s 130-plus outlets in Malaysia. Read full story

Reliance Digital plans massive expansion

Indian retailer Reliance Digital plans to embark on a massive expansion plan, taking its number of outlets from just over 100 now to 500 by March 2014. To meet this aggressive target Reliance Digital will need to open a new store every single day somewhere in India. Reliance Digital will focus on retail formats designed for tier two and tier three cities in India. Read full story

Belkin to buy Linksys

Networking and accessories vendor Belkin has entered into an agreement to acquire Linksys, Cisco’s home networking business unit. The deal would include Linksys products, technology brand and employees. Linksys currently has operations in more than 100 countries around the world. Read full story

Huawei signs Digilife distribution deal in India

Hardware vendor Huawei has added Digilife as a distribution partner in India. Digilife Distribution and Marketing Services (DDMS) is part of Indian IT conglomerate HCL Infosystems. DDMD will carry Huawei’s entire product portfolio as the vendor takes the next step in pushing products and solutions to operators, enterprises and consumers and maximising its channel reach in India. Asia-Pacific PC shipments top 120 million in 2012

Research house IDC reckons that 121 million PC units were shipped in the Asia-Pacific region in full year 2012, excluding Japan. With more and more users switching to smartphones and tablets, the results marked a 2% year-on-year fall, but the overall value of the Asia-Pacific PC market is still worth more than US$60 billion per annum. The top five vendors for 2012 in the region in order of market share were Lenovo in first place, followed by Acer, HP, Dell and Asus in second to fifth place respectively. Read full story

Elko adds Hyundai tablets to Russian portfolio

Emerging markets distributor Elko has picked up exclusive wholesaler rights to push Hyundai tablets in the Russian channel. Latvia-based Elko, which operates across the Baltics, Eastern Europe and Russia, struck an exclusive agreement with Blusafir Korea – a specialised Hyundai brand licensing company.
