Mobile distributor Emitac Mobile Solutions (EMS) has picked up a partnership award from device vendor Blackberry. The award was presented for record-breaking regional sales of Blackerry smartphones, and celebrates the strong partnership that EMS and BlackBerry have enjoyed for the last six years. EMS is one of the largest distributors of Blackberry smartphones and accessories in the region, supporting 100 mobile phone operators in 56 countries across the Middle East, Africa, CIS, South East Asia and Eastern Europe.

Red Hat names new global alliances VP
Open source solutions provider Red Hat has appointed Scott Musson as its new VP of global strategic alliances. Musson, previously at VMware, will be responsible for Red Hat’s global alliance, system integrator and ISV relationships, and will manage Red Hat’s strategic relationships with HP, IBM, Dell and Cisco.

Amazon.in targets electronics e-tail in India
E-tailer Amazon.in has enlarged its product scope to include electronics products. Indian consumers can access three new online Amazon.in stores covering mobiles and accessories, camera and photography, plus portable media players. Amazon.in, which operates as a marketplace in India, claims that it will stock more than 20,000 SKUs from more than 200 brands, with more than 150 retailers using its site as an e-tail platform.

Nokia to debut Asha 501 in APAC markets
Mobile device vendor Nokia will start selling its new Asha 501 smartphone in Pakistan and Thailand this week, with availability in India to follow shortly. The three Asia-Pacific markets will be the first countries to sell the device, which represents a new generation of smartphones for Nokia running on the Asha platform.

Distribution giant Redington India has announced that it has added in-country distribution rights for Lenovo smartphones. Redington informed the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) of the tie-up earlier today. As a national distributor for Lenovo smartphones, Redington will push the products to its extensive channel customer base.

Weisler takes on global role at HP
Vendor giant HP has confirmed changes to its senior executive line-up. Dion Weisler, currently senior VP for HP printing and personal systems (PPS) in Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) becomes global executive VP for PPS at HP. Weisler replaces Todd Bradley in the role. Bradley will take on a new position at HP as executive VP of strategic growth initiatives.

Ingram Micro rejigs global executive team
Distribution giant Ingram Micro has rejigged its global executive team, announcing a number of new appointments. Effective August 1st 2013, John Soumbasakis, 43, will be promoted to senior executive VP and president Asia Pacific, and Gerhard Schulz, 50, will be promoted to senior executive VP and president Europe. Mike Zilis, 43, will assume the role of executive VP and president, Latin America, effective January 4th 2014. As part of the shake-up there are also new roles for Shailendra Gupta, and Alain Maquet.

Courts Asia to open big box store in Malaysia
Regional IT and consumer electronics (CE) retailer Courts plans to open its first big box megastore in Malaysia in August 2012. The new outlet, which will be Courts largest store in Malaysia, will be located in the township of Bandar Sri Damansara in Klang Valley.
