Tianjin Tianhai to buy Ingram Micro for US$6 billion

Distribution giant Ingram Micro is set to become part of Chinese logistics and aviation outfit HNA Group in a US$6 billion cash deal. HNA Group is the largest stockholder of Tianjin Tianhai, the company that has tabled the US$38.90 a share offer, which represents a 39% premium on Ingram Micro’s average closing price during the last month. The definitive merger agreement has been unanimously approved by Ingram Micro’s board of directors. Read full story

Smart home trumps wearables in GfK consumer study

The latest GfK research claims that half of people internationally believe smart home technology will make an impact on their lives in the next few years, compared to just a third who say the same for wearables. The study, which covered seven countries, asked consumers to choose which of 11 leading-edge technologies – from 3D printing to virtual reality to Internet of Things (IoT) would have an impact on their lives in the next few years with respondents able to choose as many technologies as they wished. DISTREE announces 2016 calendar of events

Nubia celebrates third anniversary

Chinese smartphone brand Nubia has just turned three and is launching a range of new devices to celebrate its anniversary. Nubia has launched the latest of the Nubia Z9 series, the Z9 Max elite, Z9 mini elite and the third anniversary special edition of the Nubia Z9. The phones will immediately be available for purchase in China and will be released in other markets in 2016. Read full story

Smart home revenues to hit US$100 billion in 2020

As big numbers go, it is certainly one guaranteed to get your attention. The numbercrunchers at Juniper Research reckon that global consumer spending on smart home services including entertainment, health, energy and home automation, will reach US$100 billion per annum by 2020. WD to snap up SanDisk for US$19 billion

Storage giant Western Digital (WD) will splash out US$19 billion in cash and stock to snap up flash memory specialist Sandisk. WD claims that the deal is the next step in the transformation of WD into a storage solutions company with global scale, extensive product and technology assets, and deep expertise in non-volatile memory (NVM).
