Russian notebook market picks up in 2017

Recent figures from market analysts ITResearch indicated a sharp increase for notebook sales in Russia in the first quarter of 2017 - up 16.9% year-on-year. The research data claimed that close to 661,000 notebooks were sold in Russia in the first quarter of 2017 with a value of RUB26.1 billion (US$459m). This meant that the average sales price (ASP) for a notebook in Russia in the first quarter of 2017 stood at US$695. Read full story

VAD outfit Nuvias (incorporating Wick Hill) has won the WatchGuard distributor of the year 2017 award for Germany. This is the second WatchGuard distributor of the year award that Nuvias has won in 2017, having already taken the distributor of the year award for the UK. Read full story

Tech Data extends Dell EMC partnership

Distribution giant Tech Data has announced that its technology solutions business, formerly a division of Avnet and now part of Tech Data, has signed a new distribution agreement with Dell EMC in Hungary, Romania, Slovakia and Turkey. Tech Data will provide channel partners in the four countries with access to solutions across the complete enterprise Dell EMC portfolio, including servers, storage, cloud computing solutions and converged infrastructure technologies, to meet the needs of its small, mid-sized and enterprise customers. Safmar Group reshapes Russian consumer tech retail

The Russian retail channel has undergone significant consolidation in recent months. Safmar Group announced the completion of its acquisition of 100% of the investment company previously owned by Alexander Tynkovan and his partners, which, in turn, owned 57.7% of M.video, at the end of April. Safmar Retail will now become the management company for retail chains M.video and Eldorado, as well as a new online marketplace project called goods.ru. Read full story

Online marketplace management platform provider Mirakl has announced that UK online store, GameSeek, has chosen its business-to-consumer (B2C) marketplace platform. Amazon reaches agreement to buy Souq.com

NASDAQ-quoted Amazon has reached an agreement to acquire SOUQ.com, a major e-commerce player in the Middle East. The move ignites an intriguing battle for e-commerce supremacy in the fast-growing region, with Noon.com, which has financial backing from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, due to launch in the coming weeks.
