Avaya appoints Jones to UK role

Avaya has appointed Mark Jones as regional sales lead for Avaya UK South, where he will work closely with customers and partners to drive adoption of Avaya’s innovative communications and collaboration solutions. Jones first joined Avaya in 2011 and held senior roles within the channel and the commercial enterprise high-touch teams where he led direct sales relationships for enterprise clients, before leaving for Mitel. AB Group sales climb in fourth quarter of 2017

Central & Eastern Europe distribution giant AB Group saw sales climb 8.5% year-on-year for the quarter ending December 31st, 2017 to hit US$813m. During the traditionally busy fourth quarter AB Group benefitted from the increased business efficiency of its new modern automated distribution centre in Manic, Poland. AB has experienced dynamic growth in cloud, gaming, digital signage and its value-added distribution (VAD) business. Read full story

Archos launches cryptocurrency hardware wallet

Archos will offer cryptocurrency enthusiasts a hardware wallet to secure their bitcoins and other currencies, to ensure cold storage of private keys and to prevent hacking attempts. The Archos Safe-T mini will be available starting June 2018, at €49.99 (US$61.53). The Archos Safe-T mini is the first development of the Archos research and development team in this field. The team provided its expertise in securing cold storage data, and in designing and developing the Archos Safe-T mini. To ensure the process traceability, the device will be manufactured in France. DISTREE EMEA 2018 concludes in Monaco

The 16th annual DISTREE Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) consumer tech regional channel event finished last Friday in Monaco. Hundreds of tech brands were represented at this year’s event, holding pre-scheduled one-on-one meetings with senior executives and buyers from the region’s leading distributors, retailers and channel partners. DISTREE Events channel survey identifies Gaming, Smart Home and Lifestyle Tech as top growth categories for 2018

DISTREE Events has announced preliminary findings from its annual Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA) consumer tech distributor survey. The in-depth survey was completed by more than 100 distributors between December 4th 2017 and 9th January 2018. Distributors were asked to assess which product categories represented the best growth potential for their business in calendar 2018. The standout category was Gaming, with 54% of distributors identifying it as a top three product segment for sales growth potential in 2018. Read full story

Distributors boost two-way market data flow

Distribution, while well placed to provide vendor information to channels, is increasingly offering market insights back to vendors, according to the latest research from the Global Technology Distribution Council (GTDC). The research looks at what vendors think about distribution’s new emerging roles, which includes expanded services going forward. AB posts first quarter figures

Central & Eastern European distributor AB Group has reported after-tax profits of €3m (US$3.53m) on sales of €435m (US$511.2m) for its first quarter ending 30th September 2017. This represents an after-tax margin of 0.69%. Andrzej Przybyło, president of the board at AB, said: “We are satisfied with generated quarterly results. The AB Group is a stable and predictable entity whose business model and action strategy works in any market condition.” Read full story
