INTERVIEW: Wieslaw Wilk, Wilk Elektronik

by Stuart Wilson, Monday 23 June 2014

Wilk Electronic is ready to raise its channel profile at this week’s DISTREE Russia & CIS event in St. Petersburg, Russia. The company is a major player in the memory market with its GOODRAM portfolio of products. Wieslaw Wilk, CEO at Wilk Elektronik gave Channel EMEA the lowdown on its plans and objectives for this year’s DISTREE Russia & CIS event.

Channel EMEA (CE): What do you want to achieve at DISTREE Russia & CIS 2014? What are your key goals for the event?

Wieslaw Wilk (WW): For us, it is an excellent opportunity to meet our current and future partners from all over the region. This year we will present our updated GOODRAM offering including new innovative products. Our brand, GOODRAM, is already well-recognised in most of the CIS countries, but there is still a lot that we have to improve. First of all we will introduce Wilk Elektronik as one of the main supplier of the flash solutions in the CIS market.

As usual we will take part in several one-on-one meetings with potential partners at DISTREE Russia & CIS. This year we would like to focus on new markets, but also try and find new partners in Russia, which is one of the most important parts of our regional strategy.

As the official distributor of Toshiba flash products another aim is to create and evaluate potential partnerships and new strategic relationships for this brand. Both our brands - GOODRAM and Toshiba - are names that business partner just cannot pass by.

CE: What products and solutions will you be showcasing at DISTREE Russia & CIS 2014? What do you want distributors and retailers to know about your portfolio?

WW: We will present various flash cards and USB storage devices as well as memory modules and other accessories such as card readers and power banks. One of the most important parts of our portfolio is definitely solid states drives (SSDs) that are becoming more and more popular. We do believe that our innovative portfolio will make an impression on our future distributors. Recently we presented our new SSD - GOODRAM C40 - which is an affordable and high-capacity storage device. It has already been recognised by IT publications as a fast and easy way to speed up a computer.

Our flash drives, especially the 3.0 ones, are widely recognised as products offering the greatest performance and reliability. GOODRAM memory cards are dedicated to the most demanding users, but they can be used in both every day and advanced applications. For over 10 years we manufacture memory modules that were popular among overclockers and gamers. GOODRAM LedLight, Pro and Play dedicated for gamers were awarded high ratings by leading IT publications – evidence of our really diverse and rich offering.

At the start of 2013, our company took up a new challenging task, presenting a new product line addressed to industrial applications. This line-up of advanced products was marked with the GOODRAM industrial logo. Within this new product group, the offering includes a memory card series - including compact flash cards – SSDs and memory modules applicable in both internal and external industrial solutions.

The Toshiba offering includes the latest innovation such as fast and reliable flash drives and various memory cards such as Exceria Pro with the super speed interface UHS II.

CE: What trends have you seen in the last 12 months and what have been the highlights for your business?

WW: The important highlight was the development of our new products group such as SSDs, but undoubtedly the main highlight was the increase of sales in export markets. We also increased the presence of the GOODRAM brand across the globe. The expansion of the Polish brand in export markets has continued into additional foreign markets. We are already one of the leaders in Central and Eastern Europe and the Middle East. We have also significantly increased sales in Western and Northern Europe.

Now it is time to reinforce our position in the Russia & CIS market and introduce our brand to new markets and expand in the Ukraine and Russia. This year our brand celebrates 10 years of export sales - and we do have something to celebrate as our export sales now count for more than 60% of our total sales. The flash memory market is growing very fast and the future is very promising.

CE: Which customer segments and channels represent the greatest opportunity for growth for your company in the Russia & CIS region?

WW: We have great experience as a distributor and manufacturer. It helps us in expanding distribution channels and exploring new markets. Our customer channels are rather diverse so our offering includes complex business solutions for individual and industrial clients through the GOODRAM Industrial portfolio.

CE: Why should distributors, resellers and retailers stock and sell your products? What makes your channel proposition better than competitors in the market?

WW: There are a couple of reasons. First of all we manufacture our products in Poland, using the most innovative equipment in Europe – a Panasonic production line. It allows us to offer high-quality products at reasonable prices. We are constantly following the needs of the local market, which makes our offer very interesting.

Our portfolio is full of various products dedicated both to ordinary and specialised consumers like photographers, gamers and overclocking enthusiasts, but also graphic designers and other demanding customers. The high quality of Toshiba products and its recognised brand status are the reasons why customers prefer our products to various ‘no name’ or unknown brands.

We would also like to emphasise that both Toshiba and GOODRAM supports and invests in brand development, which is important to build credibility and increase sales.
