Samsung lands Long for European printer push

by Stuart Wilson, Thursday 5 June 2008

Samsung Europe has lured Graham Long from HP to become its new European printing business director. In his new role, Long will assume responsibility for strengthening Samsung’s number two position in the European printing market. Samsung will also look to Long to drive the growth of the vendor’s European laser printing business in 2008 by more than 50%.

“This strategic hire is a vital part of our push to build Samsung’s printer business in Europe,” said In Soo Kim, president and CEO at Samsung Electronics Europe. “We are delighted to have Graham on board and believe that his background and experience will enable us to really excel in this marketplace.”

One of Long’s first tasks will be to continue the aggressive expansion of the Samsung European printer team. Long has gained extensive experience in the European printer market during his time at HP.

Long has spent the past eight years working for HP in the UK, most recently in the capacity of enterprise business director for the company’s IPG unit. While running the enterprise team, Graham drove significant business success for HP, securing managed print service contracts with major companies including HSBC, Bank of America, Standard Life, and American Express.

“Samsung has a significant legacy of growing its businesses to become number one in a number of different industries, and it has a very real opportunity to expand its presence in the printer market,” said Long.

“I believe we have the product portfolio, solutions expertise and strong partner relationships to meet and exceed our customers’ needs. Focusing on these key areas will help Samsung succeed in this competitive marketplace,” he added.

Earlier in Long’s career, he worked for HP’s inkjet commercial division based in Barcelona, where he was responsible for channel development. Prior to joining HP, Long was sales director with Digicolor International, selling Posterjet software to OEMs including HP and Eastman Kodak.
