TDME finalises Qimonda deal

by Stuart Wilson, Monday 9 June 2008

Track Distribution Middle East (TDME) – the new incarnation of global giant Tech Data’s offloaded Middle East enterprise and components business – has finalised a distribution deal for Qimonda’s Aeneon memory products covering the UAE, Lebanon, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Track is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Middle East distribution powerhouse Aptec Holdings.

"It is a strategic partnership for us and we are very pleased to be in a position representing such a well-known brand in this region," said Astrid de Menezes, business unit manager for components at TDME. "The addition of Aeneon complements our existing portfolio of components product offerings to the channel and I am confident we can fulfil the growing demand in the retail and system integration market segments regionally.”

Jörg Strughold, president for Qimonda Europe, added: "We are very excited about expanding our business in the Middle-East region. In TDME, we have a great distribution partner to make our business successful. TDME offers a large customer base for our Aeneon brand for channel and retail markets, proactive sales support and modern logistics."

The new distribution agreement will focus on the channel and retail markets for desktop PC, notebook and server memory with Qimonda’s Aeneon-branded DRAM portfolio.

TDME assumed responsibility for key franchises and distribution agreements formerly held by Tech Data in the Middle East. TDME signed distribution agreements with major vendors including Cisco, Oracle, APC and WD and serves some 1,600 resellers across the Middle East. Headquartered in Dubai, TDME provides in-country services in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt, the Levant and North Africa.

European deal

Aeneon signed a distribution deal earlier this year with Comprel covering Italy, Spain and Belgium. The partnership is - like the TDME deal - targeted at the channel and retail markets for desktop PC, notebook and server memory. Distribution outfit Esprinet has controlled Comprel’s components business since 2003.

Strughold commented: “We believe that Comprel is the ideal partner to distribute our brand Aeneon in Italy, Spain and Belgium. Comprel offers the right mixture to make this cooperation successful: More than 30 years of expertise, high-quality services and reliability.”

Salvatore Vento, memory business supervisor at Esprinet Italy, said: "We are proud to welcome Qimonda into our portfolio of manufacturers and believe we can add value to their prestigious channel brand, Aeneon, helping to promote the brand into the Italian market. Aeneon is known for its quality products and has always taken a leadership position in all the market they have entered. With our right mix of IT distribution and retail experience, we are confident to capture a significant market share in a very short period of time.”
