Mio makes Middle East Moov with IMS

by Stuart Wilson, Wednesday 14 May 2008

GPS device vendor Mio Technology’s co-operation agreement with UAE-based International Marketing Services (IMS) is bringing the latest kit to the Middle East. Under the terms of the deal, IMS distributes Mio’s GPS and PDA products across the entire GCC region, including the vendor’s latest Moov range of portable GPS products.

The latest Moov range - Moov200, Moov300 and Moov360 - provides bilingual (Arabic and English) visual and voice guidance for choice turn by turn. It is the first to feature SiRF’s new InstantFixII technology, which predicts where GPS satellites will be on start up so a fix can be achieved in as little as five seconds, meaning users can begin navigating as soon as they’re ready to drive.

The phonetic keyboard offers spelling corrections to search addresses and points of interest easier and quicker. In addition, with Mio Moov 360, users can make hands-free phone calls on the road with Bluetooth. All three products feature the latest six countries preloaded maps, including Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain, and Qatar.

Mio develops and markets products which enable users to take advantage of the latest developments in mobile services. The brand was established in May 2002 and now has operations in Taiwan, mainland China, Europe, North America, Australia, Japan and South Korea. Mio currently employees 1,200-plus employees worldwide and sells and markets its products in over 47 countries and territories.

IMS also works with additional vendors including iDo, Lexma, Hyundai and Humax. The company has recently launched the new nano-coated keyboards and mice from Lexma in the region. IMS is the sole distributor for the Middle East and Africa for Lexma.

IMS operates as a virtual subsidiary for vendors, building and developing channels in emerging markets including the Middle East. IMS has built up a distribution network based on a regional marketing policy.
